Journalist Who Exposes U.N. Corruption Disappears From Google
FOX ^ | February 18, 2008

Posted on 02/19/2008 7:21:41 AM PST by ddtorquee

How big do you have to be to earn the wrath of the United Nations and Internet giant Google?

If you're journalist Matthew Lee, all it takes are some critical articles and a scrappy little Web site.

Lee is the editor-in-chief, Webmaster and pretty much the only reporter for Inner City Press, a pint-sized Internet news operation that's taken on Goliath-sized entities like Citigroup since 1987.

Since 2005, he's been focusing almost entirely on stories that deal with internal corruption inside the U.N., posting several stores online almost daily.

He's been especially interested in the inner workings of what could be called the practical-applications arm of the international organization, the United Nations Development Programme.

Many of Lee's stories were featured prominently whenever Web users looked for news about the U.N. using the powerful Google News search engine, a vital way for media outlets both large and small to get their articles read.

But beginning Feb. 13, Google News users could no longer find new stories from the Inner City Press.

"I think they said, 'If we can't get this guy out of the U.N., let's disappear him from the Internet,'" Lee said.

It began with an innocuous-sounding yet chilling form letter from Google to Lee, e-mailed on Feb. 8:

"We periodically review news sources, particularly following user complaints, to ensure Google News offers a high quality experience for our users," it said. "When we reviewed your site we've found that we can no longer include it in Google News."

Well, we knew Google was run by a bunch of leftists, but this is ridiculous. But then again, so is the left.

I feel sorry for this guy and his Inner City Press. Unfortunately there isn’t an organization large enough to cover the corruption that is the UN. It was designed to be corrupt and the major contributors aren’t interested in doing anything about the situation. Just another way of redistributing the wealth.

May be a non-issue, though everything about Google is a little suspect, in my opinion.

I just searched for "Matthew Lee" on Yahoo, got 52 million hits. Then I searched for "Inner City Press" on Yahoo, and got 32 million hits.

Apparently, he's still available on the Internet.

Whew !!!

I just Googled Inner City Press. I got in, no problem. I’ll try to make it a point to support the site. I’ll even hit up the sponsors. This guy has guts.

Hmmmmmm. I wonder if that woman who took the header off the U.N. building was one of his sources.

From the report I saw about this on the news today Google said they would return the site to thier search engine. Apparently they didn’t waste any time.

You have to read all the way to the end to find out this guy’s site is being restored to Google. Of course it’s not right that he was taken off at all, but the article’s sort of misleading.

The United nothings only sanction Red Star propaganda. Real journalism is getting harder to find everywhere.
I try to avoid Google, but it is a hard habit to break. However things like this are making it easier to search with other engines.

Google doesn’t like being exposed as hard leftists. That doesn’t change the fact that they are, though. They’d remove this guy, who doesn’t really even appear to be partisan, but they include extreme-left tin-foil websites like Common Dreams, Alternet, and Buzzflash.

That’s why I use Yahoo.

Google refuses to reveal who sent the complaint against Inner City Press, citing privacy concerns.

No right to confront one's accuser and refute accusations. If Google was a government, it's plain for all to see they would likely be dictatorial and oppressive rather than an American republic.
