I am an American before I am a conservative
The Collins Report ^ | Feb 18, 2008 | John F, Allen

Posted on 02/19/2008 5:00:33 AM PST by jmaroneps37

I am an American conservative not a conservative American. To me they are two very different things. I recognize the extreme danger America would from a Democrat president. There is no chance I would ever vote for a Democrat or stay home. America is too important to me. I am sick of people playing politics with the future of my country.

Given the choice between the conservative movement and my country, I will vote for the safety of America in a heartbeat. I will never vote to teach the country a “lesson” with a Democrat president. I don’t play with my family’s safety. The election of either fallen away Muslim or a woman will infuriate our Islamist enemies. The “experts” playing with this fire can make believe this won’t be the case, but they are wrong.. But we should not allow them pick our president you say. I agree.

The Democrats are for higher taxes, open borders and Ruth Ginsbergs. McCain may/may not give us higher taxes, he may be persuaded to close the borders. We will have a better chance of getting a Roberts not a Ginsberg from. The real issue is national security. There is no comparing a Democrat Commander in Chief with McCain in that position. With Iraq is becoming a winning situation, why are so many conservatives willingly joining liberals in making believe the War on Terror is over and we can start spending the “peace dividend?”

I’m 100% pro life. McCain is about 95% pro life. Either Democrat is zero pro life and in fact Obama supported a bill to euthanize inconvenient born babies.

We won’t get a truly conservative president this time. We can always rebuild the conservative movement during and after McCain, but we can never rebuild America after Democrats destroy our America.

When I first read your headline, I thought to myself “yes that’s (exactly) what makes conservatives, different from liberals”.

Guess not.

The author says:

"I am an American before I am a conservative".

But before that, he is a republican who will blindly vote for the party hack.

With people like him voting he will soon be a MEXI-MERICAN.

"...willingness to listen on taxes and the border..."

Now that's hopeful. A willingness to listen. Not "he believes in low taxes and a secure border" or "he will fight for low taxes and a secure border", just a willingness to listen. And once he's gotten your vote, do you think he'll still be willing? Yeah, sure he will.

I've been around a lot of alcoholics who had a willingness to consider quitting drinking and smokers who had a willingness to consider quitting smoking. Not that they actually would do either, but they sure were willing to listen...if you gave them a drink and a cigarette.

Conservative looks more like Restrictive here.

Perhaps it is because I just this past year Swore the Oath - the Pledge of Allegiance - which I take very seriously - and I will vote for the best candidate I feel will care for this nation.

Of the three frontrunners - there is only one choice.

There is no chance I would ever vote for a Democrat

Unfortunately, the weak-minded, ignorant, and stupid among us, along with the powers-that-be in the Republican party, have made it so our ONLY choices are to either vote for democrats, or a VIRTUAL democrat.

I'm not voting for an erratic, disloyal, liberal RINO who will RUIN our party from the inside out for YEARS to come.

I will not vote for ANY liberals, whether they have a "D", OR an "R" after their names.

What I WILL do, is vote for principled Conservatives for Congress who will fight against whichever liberal happens to make it into the White House.

That’s nice, John. But without conservatives, the America the founders created/envisioned ceases to exist. So ditching your conservative principles only serves to destroy the America to which you claim such staunch allegiance.

That must be some really good stuff the author is smoking.

To be conservative is what is to be American. Personally I see preservation of what is required to maintain this nation’s blessings and protection won’t come about from any of SOROS bought and paid for candidates...

The Republicans in Congress will support him or risk loss of Party support and their jobs.

TERM LIMITS, NOW AND FOREVER!

Too many feeders for life at the public trough are the cause of most of our problems!

If McCain wins there is a fairly good chance to overturn Roe. If a Dem wins we are stuck with it for the rest of our lives.

If your refusal to act causes all children to die when you could have saved 95 percent of them, what does that make you?

total socialism

But with them we get it right away. With McCain we lose the BoR first, so there will be no way to fight back.

This is a good post. I am a conservative leaning Republican who loves America, I fully support John Mccain to win the 2008 Presidential election.

It’s not about the country or the party

The point is, that we principled Conservatives (not just ones who PLAY "Conservatives" online), ARE doing what is best for our country and party in the long run.

We will not cede to liberal leadership of our party.

NOTE: The baseball analogy is getting old.

we can never rebuild America after Democrats destroy our America.

Similar gloom & doom nonsense is put out by the GOP every election cycle. I'm not buying it.

By the way, I'm a conservative before I'm an American. Once you separate it from its ideological underpinnings, 'American' is just a geographic term.

McCain is about 95% pro life.

Well, you can murder some or the people some of the time...(/sarc).McCain's Socialist bent has manifested itself in the anti-constitutional measures he has not just supported, but sponsored.

The Republicans in Congress will support him or risk loss of Party support and their jobs. The Dems will work in the spirit of 'bipartisanship' and add in a few demands, which will further their agendae as never before.

At least with a rat in the oval office, the 'pubbies in Congress might make some semblance of a fight.

Gridlock is good.

P.S. Because we endured jimmy carter we got RR. I will not vote for a liberal, be they democrat or republican.
