HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush urged disgruntled conservatives on Monday to rally around John McCain, calling their criticism of the Republican presidential front-runner "grossly unfair."
The father of President George W. Bush said he was annoyed by attacks within the conservative wing of the Republican Party against the Arizona senator, the all-but-certain Republican nominee to face Democrats in November election.
Many conservatives distrust McCain because of his moderate views on illegal immigration and campaign finance reform and for having originally voted against President Bush's tax cuts. Persuading them all to vote for McCain in November will be a central challenge.
"His character was forged in the crucible of war. His commitment to America is beyond any doubt," the 41st U.S. president, flanked by his wife Barbara, told a joint news conference with McCain in a Houston airport hanger.

The Islamo Facist and Commies appreciate yours.
I was too young to care about George McGovern. LOL
Guess that went right over your head, eh?
Islamo Facist don’t care about his vote - they are just happy GW hasn’t closed the southern or northern borders of this country - IT WILL BE GW’s fault when we get ATTACKED this next time! We can bitch about Clinton all we want but we will find that GW will be culpable for the next attack that will occur. He had the last 5 years to do something and he has done nothing - makes me SICK!
You are the product of a dumbed down eduction!
I liked the part where he was quoting from reagans diary about Ultra Right wing tearing reagan apart. He wasnt conservative enough *L*
No Igues it went over yours, Icare about this election that one was before I cared about politics, I was to busy getting ready to serve my country, as did John McCain.
How about you!
McCain 2008
Finally, a realist like me, instead of these innumberable wusses (being polite) that live in a fantasy world where everything revolves around their spoiled indulgences on every issue. I went through the same process you probably did -- Hunter, Thompson, Romney, and now McCain. I am a grown-up, not an immature crybaby who will aid the cause of outright SOCIALISM, MURDER OF THE UNBORN, and SURRENDER TO OUR NATION'S ENEMIES because of some self-delusional windmill-chasing after a candidate that NO LONGER IS IN THE RACE.
We won't get everything we want in McCain, but the alternative is way too much to bear.
To summarize: ACU rating McCain 83, Obama/Hillary 8 or 9.
Well I guess at the time he was not the conservatives darling, but later on he proved them wrong and he adopted them. LOL
“I AM VOTING AGAINST HILLARY AND OBAMA BECAUSE AMERICA/AMERICANS CANNOT AFFORD EITHER ONE OF THEM IN OFFICE”.
Ditto! Well Stated!
I wonder how many are really conservatives and how many are demorats trying to make sure McCain has no momentum, and the votes go to one of the demorats?

How DARE you, HOW DARE YOU say that about a man who spent SIX YEARS being TORTURED in a Vietnamese PRISON CAMP.
I don't care WHAT his views are, even if they were EXACTLY THE SAME as Obama or Hillary, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT.
By the way, I was a lifer in the same branch as the "communist" and have more appreciation than you know. So just STUFF IT.
Lets just say that you are far from a conservative.
My edcuation was quite extensive as a conservative,
and I still believe in the core values.
Anyone who wants other than a Republican in the White House at this stage of the elections, is far from the Values I was taught.
The GOP used to (figureatively speaking) march to the tune of a chirpy upbeat “ELEPHANT WALK” song.
Now, the line up of trunk- to- tail party apparatchuk chime in (playing out of tune with the Republican Conservative Base) with an uninspirational 2008 “RINO DIRGE” song.
In the orchestra, you’ll recognize Herbert Walker as the one doing his “Read my Lips” lip-sync karaoke “vision thing” ; and keeping time with that patented “debate wristwatch” of his.
I would hardly call any of that as being 'moderate' ... the first bordering on (no pun intended) being almost treasonous, the second a clear cut violation of the Bill of Rights .. the third is fluid, a political thing, but this country was founded on an issue of excessive taxation by a (then) foreign government .... today's 'foreign government' is right here in our own backyard, residing in good ol' DC
That whole statement says you are a snot nose kid somewhere.
I sure would, they love Obama they just endorsed him, as you are. But then again that is your agenda in here is it not?
Well I would not know about the snots, but I would say you must be someone who thinks they no more than the facts as outlined, About Hillary Marxist Clinton and Obama!
Fact is, I have not made up my mind yet as how to vote this time. I would reluctantly pull the lever for McCain just for the reason he might support our troops and appoint constructionist judges. But, since he has been stabbing anyone he can in the back for his own political gain (he even admitted on a talk show that he makes his decisions based on political expediency) it is hard to believe he'll even do that
Like I said, I've yet to make up my mind. We still have nine months to go and alot can happen in that time.
BTW, since you are not familiar with Mc Govern, perhaps you should study up :o)
Ok, then I'll say! http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/mccain_post_card_word%5B1%5D.pdf
