Leading Pro-Life Congressman Chris Smith Says John McCain Opposes Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- New Jersey congressman Chris Smith has led the pro-life charge in Congress for decades on abortion and bioethics issues. In a Monday interview, Representative Smith said likely Republican presidential nominee John McCain is pro-life on abortion and believes in protecting unborn children.
"He is pro-life in his heart of hearts, in my opinion," Smith told the Washington Times.
He said McCain's position on opposing abortion dates back decades and that his voting record on abortion matches his speeches on the campaign trail.
Smith also told the newspaper that there is little reason not to side with McCain when compared with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton -- two Democrats with decidedly pro-abortion views.
"The extreme positions taken by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have been almost completely obscured, as it often is, by the focus on the Republican candidate," Smith said. "Some people like to be known as the education president. They will be known as the abortion president."
The praise for McCain's pro-life view on abortion also comes from those Arizona elected officials who know him best.
Jan Brewer, Arizona's secretary of state, and former Congressman Matt Salmon both are pro-life and both say McCain's record opposing abortion is crystal clear.
"I have been on the campaign trail, I have been at meetings with him, I have been at organization and party gatherings, the issue with him is very clear that he's pro-life," Brewer told the Times.
Salmon added that McCain endorsed him in a Congressional primary in part because of his pro-life views.
John Jakubczyk, president of the hometown Arizona Right to Life, told the Times McCain can be trusted to oppose abortion.
"From my perspective, I see him as someone we can enthusiastically support, and I look forward to his getting elected," he said.
Let me know how you come out in November.
Yes, he will win them, since I am one of them. ..He also has Chris Smith’s endorsement...you know, the guy who you didn’t even know about...one of the most pro-life congressmen on the hill...
I don’t care what all these GOP insiders say to try to convince us that McCain is true conservative.
How about if they try to convince McCain that he should renounce his despicable global warming bill? That would go a long way to helping convince conservatives that he is really on our side.
Well, if McCain ever comes up with a plan to stop the murder of 1.3 Americans each year, instead of just claiming to be pro-life, you let me know.
McCain considered leaving the Republican Party when he was defeated by Bush. He talked with Democrats then about becoming one of them. He is only a Republican in order to run for office. I will not vote for Fake McCain. After four years of Obama, I believe the Republican Party will field a candidate who is really a Republican.
Truth, my friend. If there are two openings and Hillary or Obama are doing the appointing, we're going to get the president and vice-president of the ACLU on the Court.
Even if McCain goes squishy moderate for one or more of his picks, at least we hold serve on the Court ... instead of losing control of the Court for another 20 years.
McCain is on record repeatedly as promising Roberts/Alito type justices ... and he saw the Miers fiasco. Odds are he will attempt to give us nominees in the Roberts mold.
As tight as the balance on the Court is now ... these are huge stakes. Any conservative thinking about sitting this one out needs to ponder this stuff long and hard.
As long as independents and libs aren't allowed to vote in GOP primaries, then I don't stand a chance.
He's also on record for bringing in 20 million illegals into the country, among other nefarious things.
selfreferanceping
If your candidate has such a plan, and it is feasible, please do share.

Because Republican Congress critters will roll over and rubber stamp them? Or doesn't Congress have a say anymore?
Well, because Congress will be controlled by the Democrats. The Obama/Hillary Court nominees would almost certainly be confirmed.
Co-founder of National Right to Life Endorses McCain
Dr. Carolyn Gerster:
John McCain is the most qualified candidate and has a consistent and principled pro-life record, said Dr. Gerster. He has spent his career standing up for human rights and he will continue to do so as president. John McCain will nominate judges who understand the sanctity of human life, and firmly believes that courts should not be legislating from the bench. John McCain has the conviction, strengths, and experience to serve as commander in chief from day one and that is why he has my vote.

You created this thread, you are the McDrone, and the lady asked a legitimate question, and that's all you can give for a response? And yes, I've read your later posts, have witnessed firsthand your increasing loss of bladder function.
So get smart-alecky with me, McDrone. Let's see some of that McDrone intellectual firepower. What will McCain do concerning abortion?
