Charlie Crist tipped as John McCain’s running mate
Times UK ^

. . .

“Charlie would give Elvis a run for his money,” said Ken Pruitt, the Republican leader in the Florida state Senate. “That’s how popular he is in Florida. If McCain wants to win this state in November, Charlie Crist is a no-brainer [as running mate].”

The unforeseen emergence of a youthful, dynamic, and hugely popular Republican governor - think of a skinnier Arnold Schwarzenegger, without the Austrian accent - has added a tantalising twist to the 2008 White House race.

Whether McCain chooses Crist or not - and much may depend on who wins the Democratic battle - Republicans believe they may have found a candidate with the glamour, charisma and political substance to challenge Barack Obama in 2012 or beyond.

Big mistake. I live in Florida. I’m not going to spell out what Crist’s “problem” is but the Democrats are sure to. Trust me. BIG MISTAKE.

Just the very thought triggers my gag reflex.

McCain can forget about it.

Holy crap.... Now I know I’m living in some parallel dimension that doesn’t include conservatives.

Crist.... the man that could single handedly destroy Florida taxpayers by gutting the insurance industry.... and making the taxpayers the deep pockets if a hurricane destroys Florida.

McCain’s pick, if it’s a RINO, will elect a democrat. Those FBI files that the democrats have must be juicy.

Crist is a dreadful man- we’d love to get rid of him as governor...he’s an Aahhhnald type of Republican. But for McCain to choose him would be a big slap in the face to conservatives. Crist is popular- with libs and moderates here in Florida.

Charlie Crist is a no-brainer

That's the truth, Charlie is not smat at all. He is destroying the free market for insurance in Florida. He will bankrupt the state when the next big one hits.

McCain is stuck on stupid with the environmental issues. Crist is algore-lite with his kyoto like policies.

It would be an idiotic move but mccain is going to lose against obama.

This article is idiocy. Crist is not any anyone's long list, let alone a short list. He is generally assumed to be gay and will not deny it, plus, he brings nothing to the ticket.

Bad, bad choice for the country and a bad choice to sway Florida Republicans as well. Conservatives in Florida are the same as everywhere else and Crist isn’t our man.

interesting, I wonder if this is to create buzz (ala sid viscious) in order to bootstrap more angst in the McCain RINO Mutiny.

Mr. Crist has been divorced since 1979. Rumors abound about his love life

There's plenty of circumstantial evidence that he's gay, and wouldnt that be a big boost to McInsane's campaign?.. He hates conservatives, and this would seal it..He's just angry/crazy enough to pick a guy like that, IMO.

Florida has a “resign to run” law - meaning Crist would be forced to resign as governor the moment he accepted a VP nomination.

Not anymore.

Florida DID have a resign-to-run law for candidates seeking office at all levels, but it was amended last year to remove the resignation requirement if the candidate is seeking office at the federal level.

This was done specifically with Crist in mind. It was passed as part of the package that moved up the primary date.

"Isn’t this guy a Larry Craig just waiting to happen?"

Could be worse than that.

How does this "Bunking together on long trips to the Caribbean..." rumor sound to your ear?

Get used to that one, and more if McCaniac is dumb enough to tap "Mr. Suntan" as his running mate.

Anyone who actually believes that Charlie “Mr. Suntan” Crist is wildly popular in Florida must be spending too much time in Key West.

Any post that mentions Charlie Crist on the GOP ticket should come with a *barf* alert.

But then, any post that mentions John McCain on the GOP ticket should as well...
