. . .
Charlie would give Elvis a run for his money, said Ken Pruitt, the Republican leader in the Florida state Senate. Thats how popular he is in Florida. If McCain wants to win this state in November, Charlie Crist is a no-brainer [as running mate].
The unforeseen emergence of a youthful, dynamic, and hugely popular Republican governor - think of a skinnier Arnold Schwarzenegger, without the Austrian accent - has added a tantalising twist to the 2008 White House race.
Whether McCain chooses Crist or not - and much may depend on who wins the Democratic battle - Republicans believe they may have found a candidate with the glamour, charisma and political substance to challenge Barack Obama in 2012 or beyond.

The OP sez:
“think of a skinnier Arnold Schwarzenegger, “
Yep, think of another RINO.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger spent BILLIONS of dollars in CA for embryonic stem cell research, and I heard the PCism in the public schools doesn’t allow kids to say “mom” or “dad,” because they don’t want kids from gay families to feel bad.
"Especially not now that Crist's buddy was arrested on kiddie porn charges."
I also found out who's crossdressing in DC and who's in the closet. I'm not posting that cuz it's off topic but I believe it.
The race is over, the DEMs win it tall....
Crist was supposed to make property taxes drop “like a rock” in Florida. He sold out.
Most of the pundits have said that Crist would be the kiss of death for the McCain campaign as far as conservatives are concerned. It won’t happen.
Bad choice. Crist is another empty suit.
I think the GOP has a death wish.
Agree.
IMO, the RNC only exists for fundraising. As long as they have funds for investment, they don’t care if they win and it’s probably beneficial to play the underdog - It’s just a fundraising machine without a real platform.
They’ll get the albino vote.
Arnold was successful beforehand. Crist is a renter which makes him unable to deal with property tax reform or insurance reform. It’s easier for him to avoid those critical matters and to embrace environmentalism or he goes to hockey, baseball and football games instead of going to work.
Ken Pruitt is the guy who wants to put a damper on further property tax reform. The only reason people voted for Amendment 1 was because of a promise that 1 was “just the beginning.” They’re all dishonest.
The wax museum candidate.
I did a lot of research on Charlie Crist, when he ran in the Republican primaries, and Crist is LIBERAL - BIG TIME!!
The Republican voters, who voted in the primaries for Charlie Crist, made a HUGE mistake.
People better do their research before they vote. Researching the candidates is a more important responsibility than even voting. If voters keep pulling levers without doing THOROUGH RESEARCH, we are doomed.
If voters are too lazy to do THOROUGH RESEARCH, they shouldn’t even vote.
I have no doubts about what kind of judges we’ll get from either of the three. Liberal activists or milquetoast voiceless don’t ruffle any feathers types. Either way if the R nominee or the D nominee gets in we’ll have liberals at the wheel of all three branches, working in collusion to eliminate the constitutional barriers that protect my GOD given rights and keep the power of government in the hands of the citizens.
At the first indication of displeasure from his friends across the aisle and the press McCain will give them exactly the judges they want, pro abortion, anti gun, anti private property, socialist minded, global warming, open borders activists.
Hoping he’ll actually install judges willing to rule on laws according to thier constitutionality based on what the constitution actually says is about as realistic as a fat snaggle toothed freshman expecting to be asked on a date by the Varsity Team Quarterback.
Crist is incompetent, unqualifed, creepy, etc. IIRC, he is preoccupied with death.
Oh yeah!
That makes me feel lots better.
He's popular all right (the media tells us that all the time, and they must be right!), except that that his opportunistic endorsement of McCain didn't persuade one segment of the FL GOP vote: conservatives. We know better.
His campaign promises included fixing the home insurance mess and that property taxes would "drop like a rock." He didn't follow through on either of these, but instead chose a popular stand with Democrats: the good ol' Global Warming/Environmental bandwagon, which curiously he didn't mention during his campaign.
He also supported McCain's amnesty bill -- but hey, not to worry, he's "wildly popular."
‘charlie is an empty suit’
Bingo.
