Not much of a comfort, but CBC News World (Canada) had the usual bright breezy young woman describing the "new flag" of Kosovo. Showing the scenes there. One is reminded of the "ethnic cleansing" brigade on CBC television during the Nato crimes. Then a voice went to the Conservative government and it's position. They are waffling fast. The minority government which could easily brought down in a parliamentary vote, does not want to touch this one.
As of now, the betting is that frantic "experts" are being called in. This before a grand official statement on the Canadian position.
The threat of a sleeping separatist movement in Quebec is what scares 'em. Billions paid to buy Quebec off (IMHO). One can imagine our government saying.
Oh no, not again!
Separatism is effectively dead in Quebec.
It peaked in the late70s/early 80s; the new generation genuinely wants to be part of Canada.
I'd forgotten about Quebec. And are the metis still around?? Plus, lst's remember The Kurds, The South Ossetians, the Basques, the Bretons and the Muslim minorities in China's far west, to name but a few.
