McCain to offer up a Rice Prez

U.S Elections 2008

By Nigel Nelson

Presidential wannabe John McCain is poised to ask US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to be his running mate - in a bid to see off Barack Obama.

Republican McCain believes Afro-American Condi could be his secret weapon now Obama looks most likely to become Democrat candidate.

And political pundits believe a McCain-Rice ticket would be unbeatable.

Washington columnist Nicholas von Hoffman said: "She is pure political gold. The woman is tough, fast on her feet and able to give better than she gets."

Polls say Obama would whip McCain by 50 per cent if they went head to head now.

The Republican is expected to win the backing of former President George Bush Snr tomorrow.

Meanwhile Obama's weakened rival for the Democrat candidacy, Hillary Clinton, is trying to appeal to middleclass and Latino voters ahead of the primaries in Wisconsin, Ohio and Texas.

HE needs a conservative, not an affirmative action pick.

I agree 100%. Besides being morally and culturally wrong, such a cynical move would not work. Condi and Clarence Thomas are not black for electoral purposes. Only leftist African-Americans count as black.

When will Britain have a black Prime Minister?

Not for nothing, but you’re a really nasty individual. I’ve seen you insult many people on the right in the last two months. It’s really repulsive.

But putting Condo on the ticket means the Dems will have to say that publically - which can hurt in the general balck electorate IT's "yo are equal as long as you behave".

It can't lose the Republicans black votes, and there a lot of potential ones to be gained.

“” The woman is tough, fast on her feet and able to give better than she gets.” “

I agree with that and the fact that she is one hot lady, but if she were a conservative we would all know it by now, besides does anyone really think that the ice queen is a good politician?

Funny, no one else seem offended. Is your name Phil Donahue? Nuttin like a bit of faux outrage.

Picking Rice would be seen as a desperate move by a candidate expecting to lose, ala Mondale-Ferraro in 1984. McCain needs a solid conservative. Rice has yet to be shown that she’s conservative, we don’t even know what she believes on economic or social policy.

Mike Steele, that's the ticket. I think he would be a great VP.

“Funny, no one else seem offended.” What’s funny about that? Other are probably desensitized to it. Most people ignore bullies and other nitwits so not voicing objections isn’t exactly the best measure.

“Is your name Phil Donahue?” Weak. Seriously.

“Nuttin like a bit of faux outrage.” Outrage?

This is the best you’ve got? What a waste.

Now this grabs my attention, but Alan Keyes would get even more of my attention.

Not a good choice.

She was a great sovietologist but is a lousy Secretary of State. Her failure to condemn the coup attempt against Chavez set US foreign policy back 20 years throughout the region and ushered in a leftward shift all over Latin America.

She is also pro “choice”.

I would say she would be a good VP if McCain was running against Hillary but not Obama. He would need a conservative or a woman (maybe Palin from Alaska)?

Totally agree. McCain needs a conservative, not another weak Republican. Pick “Let’s all get along” Condi, and the base will be more demotivated than ever.

If you think that would get the black vote, forget it. As a whole, they will always vote Democratic.

Better would be to pick an Hispanic candidate, if you wanted to win. That would sharply divide the Latino bloc from the Black bloc.
