Top Clinton Adviser Says Superdelegates Will Decide Election, Obama's Victories 'Irrelevant'

Saturday , February 16, 2008

A top Hillary Clinton adviser on Saturday boldly predicted his candidate would lock down the nomination before the August convention by definitively winning over party insiders and officials known as superdelegates, claiming the number of state elections won by rival Barack Obama would be "irrelevant" to their decision.

The claims no doubt will escalate the war of words between the campaigns, as Obama continues to argue superdelegates should vote the way of their districts. But the special class of delegates, which make up about 20 percent of the total delegate haul, are not bound to vote the way of their states and districts, as pledged delegates are.

Obama leads handily in the pledged delegate count and has won more states but trails Clinton in superdelegates, making them potential and controversial deadlock-breakers if the race ends up a dead heat come convention time.

Harold Ickes, a 40-year party operative charged with winning over superdelegates for the Clinton campaign, made no apologies on Saturday for the campaign's convention strategy.

"We're going to win this nomination," Ickes said, adding that they would do so soon after the last contest on June 7 in Puerto Rico. "You're not going to see this go to the convention floor."

"Let's start hearing who he might appoint as his cabinet? Then you might feel better"

How would hearing who he might appoint as his cabinet make a freedom loving American patriot feel better?

Actually, the records so far indicate Obama has contributed more “paid off” the super deligates with substantially more cash than Hillary.

Maybe she is just saving her pay offs for the right moment.

Her point was experience. I'm not debating policy regarding her post.

How could a Clinton cabinet make a freedom loving American patriot feel better?

I do see a catch 22 here.

Reminds me of their political brethren, the Muzzies.

It should. Their objectives are similar.

I don't believe Obama would take it.

I hope you're right but think you might be underestimating the machine.

That’s because they’ve got us busy in our little hamster wheel trying to pay taxes. :)

But I do believe that a Hilary rip-off would be enough to set off a nationwide protest. Having Obama in the race is historically a huge event. Hilary may have bitten off more than she can handle this time. People will be very pi$$ed and understandably so.

"Nick, this Clinton-Obama match promises to be the showdown of the decade."

"That's right, Johnny. Before it's over, I expect a thrill to be running up MY leg."

"Good one, Nick. Does that mean we should hire Chris Matthews to work the match?"

"Only if Obama needs another lotion boy."

(together)"Ahh, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!"

IMHO if Clinton and Company steal this elecction from Obama by means of cronyism 75% of black America as well as a large share of young 1st time voters will sit out the election and many independents will go for McCain.

No way. Disenfranchised young and minority voters are not going to go for the old white man. Heck, even the old and white don't want him.

When I encounter people excited about Obamalamadingdong
(you know talking about him or a bumper sticker on their car, etc.) I merely tell them the Clinton’s already have the nomination and they’re counting on Obama to “know his place” and don’t get too excited. IF there’s further discussion, I point out people like John Lewis and others here in Georgia have switched from her highness to Obama, but it’s just one state.

And even if Obama has some 21 states to her 8 or whatever it is...it doesn’t matter in the end. Bubba was the first black president, etc.

Gas stations, work, the neighborhood, grocery store...

AND my wife has about 6 cases of Orville Reddenbacker popping corn in the pantry as well.

“If this happens, it may finally convince blacks that the Dims are not their friends.”

One would think.

I hope for black dims, they don’t become disenfranchised in the party. Their ideology would eliminate most of them from the Republican party. They’d have to resort to circling their own wagon like in blazing saddles.

I did consider that. And you're right. I think the only way he would take it is if he had to, if you know what I mean.....

FDR Administration. Ickes was Attorney General I think.

And he was petty enough to try and get "Hoover Dam" renamed. He succeeded until FDR died and congress almost unanimously restored the name.

Wow...if this in fact happens like Ickes says it will, Obama’s mostly black constituency is going to be REALLY pissed off at the Clintons.

If Americans are pissed off, showing the urge to become uncorked, free cheese and some carefully orchestrated acts of extremeists will get everyone media drugged up enough to forget whatever's bothering them. A few nipple slips from sporting events and a few mall shootings along with some urban mortgage gimmies should do the trick.

Obama who? Well, he wasn't black like me anyhoo.

There are no words to describe how corrupt and stinking that Clinton group is. Super delegates need to go away, how can voters stand for this?
