For the second time in six months, Buena Park pastor Wiley S. Drake has called on his followers to pray for the demise of leaders of the organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
Last week, Drake learned the IRS had launched an investigation into his endorsement of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's presidential bid, a probe that Americans United had urged.
The endorsement was written on church letterhead and announced during a church-affiliated Internet radio show. As tax-exempt organizations, churches are barred from campaigning for candidates. IRS officials declined to comment on the matter, citing privacy regulations.
Drake urged action against Americans United and the American Civil Liberties Union in a Thursday e-mail.
As he had done last August, Drake quoted in the e-mail Psalm 109, which speaks of deceitful people and asks God to let such a person's days be few and let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
"In light of the recent attack from the enemies of God, I ask the children of God to go into action with imprecatory prayer," he wrote.
Imprecatory prayers are alternately defined as praying for someone's misfortune. or, Some ministers have said they are an appeal to God for justice.
Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director, called Drake's appeal to his supporters "reckless and repugnant."
"Introducing this kind of religious extremism into American life is reprehensible," he said. david.mckibben@latimes.com

I fully agree.
Now apply that same standard to the proselytes of the pedophile polygamist pirate Mahomet.
call for the demise of organizations, maybe, but for a pastor to call for the death of the leaders of such - unless we're talking about such as alQ and the Taliban - is, ah, un Christian?
all that I ask from god is to destroy and ruin my enemies.
Why do they only investigate conservative endorsements?
I really hope Barry Lynn meets up with Psalm 109 in the near future.
Note that the IRS NEVER investigates religious institutions
that endorse the Clintons or Democrats.
This is absolute proof again that the IRS is a wholly owned
agency of the Clintons and the DNC.
The Pastor could give a personal endorsement .. as long as it is not connected with his ministry.
Giving the endorsement on “church” letterhead .. was a bad move .. and suspicious at the least.
These groups are just looking for any loophole they can find to discredit and get rid of the church.
I wonder how these groups will feel when the rapture happens and the “church” leaves ..?? When the church leaves, the Holy Spirit will be leaving too .. and the tribulation will not be a fun time.
And of course when black churches endorse Democrats from the top to the bottom of the ticket...it’s just a ...social movement.
Using the letterhead of a tax exempt organization is not smart.
Your right, and BTW, this pastor is a Freeper.
If this pastor used official church letterhead, he was stupid and deserves to pay the penalty. Having said that, I don’t really care if he prayed for Barry Lynn to be struck by lightning.
Drake quoted in the e-mail Psalm 109, which speaks of deceitful people and asks God to let such a person’s days be few and let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
Be careful what you pray for, the G-d of Abraham, Issac and Jacob may deem you to be a deceitful person—
Or, maybe Barry dropped some pillowtalk on an IRS agent or something ~ we probably ought to dig up the bones of the guy who thought it a good idea to mix up IRS and religion ~ put him on display as "America's stupidest politician".
All that *I* ask from God is to love my enemies, give them the best life possible, and help them prosper in love and peace.
