One of Brian McNamee's lawyers predicted that Roger Clemens will be pardoned by President Bush, saying some Republicans treated his client harshly because of the pitcher's friendship with the Bush family.
Lawyer Richard Emery made the claims Thursday, a day after a congressional hearing broke down along party lines. Many Democrats were skeptical of Clemens' denials that he used performance-enhancing drugs and Republicans questioned the character of McNamee, the personal trainer who made the accusations against the seven-time Cy Young Award winner.
"It would be the easiest thing in the world for George W. Bush given the corrupt proclivities of his administration to say Roger Clemens is an American hero, Roger Clemens helped children," Emery said in a telephone interview. "It's my belief they have some reason to believe they can get a pardon."
During Wednesday's session before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Clemens repeated his denials under oath, which could lead to criminal charges if federal prosecutors conclude he made false statements or obstructed Congress.
"I'm not aware of Mr. Clemens having been charged with anything," White House deputy press secretary Tony Fratto said after being told of Emery's remarks.
Emery cited Bush's decision last year to commute the 2 1/2-year prison sentence of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, his vice president's former top aide. Libby was convicted in the case of the leaked identity of a CIA operative.

You may well be right but I would observe that when I saw him start to say what is a pretty common phrase he realized that his attorney had told him NOT to say it since it creates the impression that other times that he didn't say it he wasn't being honest.
Yeah, yeah, I know, but still...
I don't have a dog in this hunt, I don't follow baseball any longer and I've heard some harsh words said about Clemens but for what it's worth I kind of felt sorry for him; the trainer impressed me as a sleezeball and just, maybe just, Clemens in innocent yet he's royally screwed.
Maybe he deserves it. However if so it should have happened in an entirely different way, not via some farcical report by Mitchell or by the testimony by someone who has a history of not telling the truth.
I’m not certain it would be simple either.
HGH might still be detectable in the blood stains (not sure if it “stays” over time). Remember, HGH occurs naturally in everyone’s system. (Is there an age where we cease manufacturing it?)
If some is added at a different time, that might be easy to prove by similar oxydation levels or impossibly high concentrations relative to the amount of blood.
Nope, quite the opposite. Head and jawbone size are not proof of juicing.

Proper administration and use of HGH is not illegal. Wasn’t then, isn’t now. It’s equal to telling congress she has breast implants.
Not at all - Clemens is the one who just lied to Congress. I think he’s going to do time for that.
Once again, it’s not the original act, it’s the cover-up that gets you.
All of my life I have been a Yankee fan (never hated the Red Sox) and an Astro Fan. Roger, has always been one of my favorite players.
However, Roger juiced.
Roger lied.
Roger threw his best friend and wife under the Federal Bus.
Roger is an Arrogant Jerk.
He lied under oath to the Feds and that will get you time every time.
Test the D a m n needles and bloody guaze and charge Clemems accordingly. Charge McNamee for lying under oath.
This has nothing to do about removing drugs from Professional sports. Just more grandstanding by both parties.
Must be nice they dont have important work to do like Immigrations or Social security.

I believe it was a cocktail dress (formal wear). I’ve always wrote it off as the same as me bundling up my soiled tux and setting a mental reminder to take it to the cleaners before my next “fency dress” event.

Point taken, that perhaps Clemens had been warned about NOT starting a statement “to be honest”, since he is supposed to honest all of the time. . . .
As far as the trainer being a sleezeball, agreed, but then Clemens did have him working for him. They know each other very well.

MLB will comply with the demands of Congress to keep their exemption.
And it’s a GAME.
As such, it is not worth this level of consideration.
I'm sure it's his wife's doing. No way is she going to risk going to jail for perjury and be separated from her kids for a few years just so Roger's Hall of Fame plaque doesn't get tossed in a garbage bin.
