Lincoln Chafee Endorses B. Hussein Obama
Associated Press | 2/14/08

Posted on 02/14/2008 7:50:08 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

Former Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee is endorsing Democratic Sen. Barack Obama. The Rhode Islander told The Associated Press he is endorsing Obama in a conference call Thursday. Chafee left the Republican Party last year and became an independent. He was one of the Senate's most liberal Republicans before he lost his seat in 2006 to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse.

Y'all need to understand a guy like Chafee. He's from an old line New England family, probably full of anti-slavery activists and early Republicans in the 19th century. Episcopalian. These are the families who did real well in the 19th century, and felt both a bit smug and a bit guilty about it.

Their move to liberalism wasn't obvious or straighforward; two big factors were involved. On the one hand, they were attracted to progressivism as a reaction (perhaps even a nativist reaction) to the corruption of the non-WASP immigrant waves of the late 19th century (these sentiments in New England are still visible. Case in point: note the ethnic divides in Mystic Pizza), and on the other hand, the Episcopal Church was very much caught up in the social gospel movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, emphasizing a sort of almost Christian Socialism that appealed to these people's sense of noblesse oblige -- these attitudes were deeply inculcated in the generations that attended the very WASP New England boarding schools (like Phillips Academy, where Linc went) beginning around 1890 and continuing to the present.

I don't say it's right, and I don't say it's pretty, but it's really not as if these people woke up one day and became libs.

Whether dug up by Clinton or created by Clinton, it still has the earmarks of a Clinton operation.

But, it could still be true.

Why aren't we seeing questions being asked now about Ms. Rodham's bodyguard and roommate, Huma, the Saudi Arabian operative?

Are the Republicans so sure Hillary will get the nomination they're waiting to ask that question until after November?

This might actually end Obama mania. Obama is probably hoping this is not true.

If Linc were the Repub nominee the same people pushing that bag of huuman waste McCain, would be demanding conservative loyalty to him.

He’ll get more votes for doing it...

Obama is the Messiah.... Attack him once and you are racist, hate filled, ignorant, Conservative....

Just wait till its a for sure with Obama and the Obama Zombies will be passing out the Kool-Aid in the streets..

Yes We CAN... Considering the diversity of society ... How can anyone compete with that... He is fighting the Political system in America as if it was a civil rights movement and he is the victim...

Conservatives lose big time..In fact if he is successful Conservatism will be relagated to the same status as kkk
