ABC News' ^ | February 13, 2008 | Teddy Davis

A top adviser to John McCain said Wednesday that he will step down from the Arizona senator's presidential campaign if ...

"I would simply be uncomfortable being in a campaign that would be inevitably attacking Barack Obama," said McCain adviser Mark McKinnon ...

McKinnon, who was a Democrat before serving as President Bush's ad maker in 2000 and 2004, said that he plans to be behind McCain "100 percent" no matter who the Democratic nominee is.

He explained, however, that if the Democrats nominate Obama, he will be supporting McCain "from the sidelines."

He supports the candidate, but not the campaign.

I hear Hillary is having a staff shake-up. He might want to give them a call.

I don’t know how to read this one.

On one hand, I’m tempted to call this guy a handwringing pansy.

On the other hand, I see where this might be an instance of chivalry.

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

The real question is how McCain will react when the leftscum who helped him win the GOP turn on him? After he has gone out of his way to alienate the conservatives for so long, to whom will he retreat? I think that he’ll try to come back to us. Given his vindictiveness, it might - I repeat MIGHT - be worth thinking about accepting him. If we do, he might swing FAR right, and this might actually work out in the end.

/terminal optimist...

He's a handwringing pansy. If it's going to be McCain vs. Obama, we have to get up off the floor and keep what could be a Democrat sweep of House, Senate and Presidency from happening.

We have a bunch of handwringing pansys around here, too. During the course of the campaign, McCain can be influenced by us to drop some of his more goofy impulses. If we get a strong conservative House and Senate, they too can help influence McCain to straighten up and fly right.

If we fail, and get Obama and a Dem Congress ... Well, you don't want to think about that.

Typical Democrat. He “plans” on supporting McCain. Notice he does not say he supports McCain. He’s probably joined the Obama campaign already. What a jellyfish. These people without character really do scare me.

Mark McKinnon, former media adviser for President George W. Bush, is a founding member of the new online political and social networking community HOTSOUP.com, which is to debut in October 2006.

In 2006, McKinnon started working on John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign. In January 2007 he said he would quit if the general election pitted McCain against Barack Obama. "I will, however, still support and vote for John McCain," he told the Austin American-Statesman."I just don’t want to work against an Obama candidacy. I think a McCain vs. Obama race would be a great choice for the country."

Feb. 5th., 2008

Mark McKinnon, a top McCain adviser, called the criticism from Limbaugh and the other hosts “frustrating,” saying: “Our question is, ‘Isn’t it better to get behind a Republican you may disagree with from time to time than work for an outcome that puts a Democrat in the White House with whom you will disagree all of the time?’

On the other hand, I see where this might be an instance of chivalry.

So just because Obama inherited a modest amount of melanin in his skin from his father's side of the family, we're forbidden to examine his record and try to see whether he's got the character necessary to serve as President?!?

When Freepers start throwing around words like "chivalry" to describe a Stalinist atmosphere of political correctness, we've passed from the ridiculous into the sublime - the sublime, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

One senior aide to John McCain has already said he's reluctant to attack Obama: last year, McCain's adman Mark McKinnon wrote an internal memo promising not to tape ads against the Illinois Democrat if he becomes the nominee.

See my #9 ... I think it will work out. Let's face it: if presented with the choice, who leans more toward our side -- McCain or Obama? If we elect enough conservative Congressmen to keep McCain's weirder impulses in check, we're SURELY better off than an Obama Presidency and a Dem Congress.

We need to stop moaning and get to work.

Lighten up, Francis.

Doesn’t mean I agree with him, or either one of his candidates. There’s something to be said for refusing to work against someone who you admire, even if the both of you are full of crap.

It’s not that hard to understand.
