On Wednesday’s CBS "Early Show," co-host Harry Smith discussed the ‘Potomac Primaries’ with Democratic Strategist Dee Dee Meyers and Republican CBS Political Analyst Nicole Wallace, who said of John McCain’s conservative critics: "The more that we see kind of the crazies like Ann Coulter out attacking John McCain, the better Republicans feel about their chances in the general election."

No matter how you feel about Coulter, it's obvious that no Republican is basing their support of McCain on Coulter's dislike of him.

As far as the entertainers like Rush and Hannity, Laura Ingraham et.al... I really think they owe conservatives an appology because they failed to rally the base around a suitable candidate early enough..
They should have saw the dangers of McCain early on and warned often so that the base would have coalaced around Fred Thompson... or Duncan Hunter ... early on with enthusiasm... an energized base would have brought in the moderates.
Instead the talking heads all Johnny come lately with Romney and that just didn’t do it....
If you think this is bad, wait until the Republican party levels their twelve guage filled with rock salt at conservatives for not supporting McCain. You haven’t seen anything yet.
McCain and the Republican party will do their damndest to marginalize true conservatives before this is over.
