Biofuels Meltdown
American Spectator ^ | 13 feb 08 | William Tucker

Posted on 02/13/2008 6:38:26 AM PST by rellimpank

Last week two studies published in Science announced what anyone might have suspected all along. "Biofuels," rather than reducing carbon emissions, are adding two them -- possibly by a factor of nearly 100!

The two studies may finally puncture the myth that anything is to be gained from burning crops for fuel. From the very beginning, there was never any indication that turning corn into ethanol was improving our energy independence. As that effort faltered, the myth arose that at least it was reducing carbon emissions. Now it has been shown to do neither.

Meanwhile, thanks to a 51-cents-per-gallon tax break, 25 percent of the American corn crop is being turned into ethanol. Farmland prices are soaring and food prices are escalating all over the world.

Making corn-based ethanol should be a felony.

I don't know about carbon, but The American Spectator obviously needs a copy editor!

One of my customers makes Parmesan cheese. A byproduct of their process is three truckloads of 200 proof alcohol, which they sell into the gasoline blending biz.

LOL... HRC is a champion of bio-fuels. But then again... the average voter knows nothing when it comes to feasible alternatives(if the even exist) to drilled oil.

Some Germans, during WWII ran autos on gas generated directly from wood chips. No wasting time converting to ethanol. Ethanol now is a politically protected product. Every idiot around is touting ethanol while criticizing the production.

We just need to increase Parmeson Cheese production about 100,000 times and we are home free on ethanol, but what the heck do we do with all the cheese?

The article is seriously misinformed except for one thing: I do agree we shouldn’t try to replace oil with alternative fuels.

The place for alternative fuels is as an oxygenate to burn the gas better. That’s all. We simply can’t replace oil with ethanol or anything else.

And we need to move up to butanol and ester fuels and away from ethanol.

Thanks for the ping! I wonder how many people could have been fed with the corn products, and how many nations have starving people due to this MIS-use of earth’s resources in the name of political correctness?
