I’m a Fredhead still sulking over him dropping out so don’t read anything into this, But

I have to ask myself now that we are down to just McCain, who would I rather turn the military over to,

McCain, Clinton, or Obama?

Two of the above names would destroy the military as an effective fighting force by the sheer number of trained soldiers who would get out as soon as they could. They will be replaced by young people just looking for a job in the poor economy that certainly will come with a quasi-socialist government. Having served in the Navy under Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan I have seen this first hand, the difference in moral. Under Jimmy Carter, FTN was very popular graffiti found on the bulkheads of my ship, the stalls in the heads, and at the top of letters the sailors sent home. I’m not going to spell it out but you know what FTN stands for. When Reagan took over this attitude changed and we had pride once again, and re-enlistments went way up, and that foul graffiti disappeared.

If McCain is our nominee, as much as I dislike him I will hold my nose and vote for him for the sake of the military alone.

“Freerepublic needs an enema.”
Exactly.
Judging by the responses here so far you have moderates and knee jerk psychos.

"Being a moderate gets you no respect."

Wow. Being a MODERATE means you can't actually take a stand on something. It's a wishy-washy place. Even LIBERALS chose a SIDE and they don't apologize for that (though they apologize for every other person in the world except the Right).

Being a MODERATE generally means, I'm sorry to say, you simply aren't a leader, can't make a decision and are really just a "let's wait and see how the polls go" kind of a person.

Right.
So which of the two categories do you fall in?
(I’m guessing “moderate” is out)

Rush calls people like Lucia "jello heads".

I might add to that....lemon jello heads with the same color.

A “centrist” is one without the guts to take a position.

That definition infuriates me. It is a attempt to over simplify what is a more complex issue.

Centrists, or moderates for the most part are in agreement with their respective right or left flanks on the majority of issues and differ only on one or two, and most of those are social in nature. They are not wishywashy wag the doggers but I'm sure that there are some of those, just like there are whack jobs on both the left and right flanks.

If I am in disagreement with rush Limbaugh on two of the hundreds of conservative issues, I am called a RINO CENTRIST for my troubles and asked to leave the room before I contaminate others....

This is a load of crappola. A cheap superficial attempt at forced conversion for the sake of purity.

Screw'em. I am what I am.....am you think that infers a lack of guts, you are sadly mistaken because I caucus with the conservatives because I am not a liberal and cannot be one. Because I may not be pure in your eyes, does not make me wrong and does not make you more right.

This is why the party is falling apart like a cheap suit, and why we will likely lose a lot more before the right wing sees their error as they have before in the history of the party. This has happened to the Dem's as well, as recent as a few years ago. History always repeats because people fail to learn from it. This is even true with the best.

Eventually, things get so bad, that it forces the factions back together in common need, but those needs were always there. They were only covered up with hubris.

Then you are not a centrist. The centrists I refer to are the ones in the middle on everything because they dislike confrontation. They'll sacrifice principles and "go along to get along".

Don't try to squeeze that shoe on, it don't fit!

As Mr. Miyagi said, "Walk on the right side, you safe. Walk on the left side, you safe. Walk down the middle, sooner or later...Squish just like grape."
