There have been years of debate about this. The Senators who voted on their constituents’ behalf listened to the arguments and have agreed with The President. To characterize this as being rushed through the halls of Congress is simply disingenuous. You may not agree with the result of the vote, but to say it has not been carefully considered in all aspects, including airing arguments such as, “what happens with future liberal judges...”, is clearly incorrect.

Fine, but make the results of those 'debates' readily available and include them with the press release. Go even further and publicly note the points where existing federal law provides protections against the potential abuse of this law - both would be a good start. Points like that need to be documented to quell the reservations of people like me (and other less objective types), and also to be able to wave them in the face of any future numskull in Washington who might try to abuse this law. When you make legislation like this, you also need to make your intent for it *CRYSTAL CLEAR*. That's why the media and liberals have field days with things like this...and why they've been able to twist other things like the 2nd Amendment arguement over the years - because the original intent can be blurred if it's not defined properly.

The Bush Admin has always been really bad at selling it's case on these types of laws (and most anything relating to the WOT) but I've been pretty willing to give it the benefit of the doubt in most of the extreme cases. But this is part of the reason people (and the media) tend to get the wrong idea, and also why these laws end up getting abused.

As it stands now, I see huge issues with it, and if abuse of it starts to become common under a Democrat socialist regime, maybe some will then understand why, but then it could be too late.
