What the heck is a “single ingredient food item

Shrimp comes to mind. It's about the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

TJ’s needs to be a bit less obtuse with this policy. Something like “We don’t sell foods with ingredients from China

But that would impact the bottom line. You don't expect a big company to actually put money at risk as part of a campaign to hoodwink the customers, do you?

There is not a grocery store anywhere that can tell you if the ingredients in their processed foods came from China or anywhere else. If you want to know, you have to contact the manufacturer. Even then you will have to give them a lot number to be able to tell if the specific product ingredient came from China or somewhere else. Some may be able to tell you they use no ingredients from China because they have made an effort to do so, just like Trader Joes.

Even something like Alaskan Salmon can be proceesed in China and then sent back here. (hint, package “printed in China”)

Trader Joes is way out in front of everyone else on this. They are not trying to hood wink anyone. Ask congress why they failed to pass legislation on ingredient labeling when it came up for a vote.

Maybe you should have googled it, then. How about wheat (contaminated with melamine, the stuff that killed pets) ), potatoes, bean curd, fresh fruit, dried fruit, olives, bay scallops, Pacific cod, catfish (stopped because it tested as contaminated and mushrooms, to name a few?
