You are absolutely right. And the late, not-so-great President Nichol is absolutely wrong. The First Amendment has nothing whatsoever to do with W&M permitting a live sex show on the campus of that college.
It is a shame that Nichol will remain on the law faculty, where his corrupted ideas about the Constitution will continue to infect law students.

I'm probably missing the point you're trying to make, but W&M is a state school just like UVA and VaTech.
