Despite the attempt to give John McCain the GOP Presidential nomination, the party doesn't have to nominate every Democrat's favorite Republican. Even though he is clearly the Republican frontrunner, Super Tuesday's results show McCain has not only failed to energize the Republican Party faithful — he has alienated it.

The terrible GOP turn-out in the primaries tells the story of the impending electoral disaster of McCain on the ticket — consistent with national polling that has, for months, shown "none of the above" as the conservative choice, a growing number of Republicans are talking about "voting with their feet” (planted firmly on a footrest), and sitting out the general election altogether. At OpenGOPConvention.com, we're pushing for a wide-open "brokered" convention in which the delegates take charge and pick a nominee they agree supports the Reagan platform, fits the mold of a true conservative, and reflects the values of grassroots Americans.
This could result in the drafting of a "dark horse" nominee.
We're therefore running our own online preference poll to gauge possible choices.

And considering all the crap people tossed at Thompson for having the audacity to start his campaign when HE decided, why should we support someone who didn't have the leadership or initiative to get into the race before now?
Things have changed.
This is a dynamic system, things are changing rapidly. What was reality last month isn't now.
My brother-in-law needs a gig. He’s been clean and sober almost a month now. Needs something inside without a lot of heavy lifting.
Thanks.

My vote:
3 Jim DeMint (Senator from South Carolina)
1 Newt Gingrich (former Speaker of the House)
2 Duncan Hunter (Congressman from California)
4 Alan Keyes (former Assistant Secretary
Not ideal, but not too bad.
And if I hear one more yahoo from the sticks come back with the DNC’s utterly false “divorce in hospital room” propaganda, or the knuckleheaded and pathetically uninformed “Newt’s a global warming fan” (READ HIS BOOKS DUMMY!), or any of the other fantastic and disprovable slanders, the I don’t know what remains for Conservatism in America.
IMO Newt is the only sure and articulate Conservative voice remaining, and at this juncture his is the voice needed to get Conservatism back on track.
From the choices I'm presented with as of now, he's got my vote.
so sad
So, you're saying if your brother-in-law is elected, only small, lightweight interns need apply?
While I'm not a huge Newt fan, and don't think he'd have a chance to be elected, I'm glad to see you mentioning that.
"In 1992, his Democratic opponent, Tony Center, ran an ad claiming that Gingrich had "delivered divorce papers to his wife the day after her cancer operation," which was not strictly true, although friends have acknowledged that he discussed divorce terms with his estranged wife while visiting her in the hospital.[14"--Wikipedia
Newt's personal life sure isn't a big improvement on the lies told about him, though.
why not just accept reality and try to influence mccain?

I am confused on this biz. Should McCain get dumped at the convention who/how do the Rs pick a new candidate? Will it be the huckster(Id vote for Obama before him...Obama will do less damage)? Can they draft Romney(not my choice but could vote for him)
With zero leadership speaking for the majority of Republican voters what can happen? So far no body has more than 1/3 of the primary votes! geeeez
Think of the hay they'll make out of McCain's divorce.
newt is...let’s just say...gotta love him but he’s not electable.
I thought he was too erectable.
Please don’t gross me out like that. Ever.
I’ll accept any conservative who isn’t a globalist, who believes the words of the Constitution and the Declaration.
Funny how I actually have to make that distinction, as if globalism could somehow be conservative.
