WASHINGTON - Conservative Gary Bauer is endorsing Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

The prominent abortion foe says in a statement that McCain "has dedicated his life to defending human rights around the world, including the rights of the unborn." The McCain campaign released Bauer's statement.

Bauer himself ran for president in 2000.

McCain thanked Bauer for his support. The Arizona senator says, "Gary has always been a forceful, unapologetic advocate for the sanctity of life and traditional marriage, judicial restraint and a strong American foreign policy based on our values."

Ronald Reagan had a lot of Democrats cross over and vote for him.

This is how you win elections and get power.

“You can vote as many times as you want but McCain is doomed to lose in a landslide, especially if it is Obama. You are tilting at windmills.”

Maybe. And it’s not like I’m happy with McCain, but I’m less happy with Hillary! or Obama.

Endorsing McCain has become the kiss of death for any so-call conservative.

As it should be.

Anyone who calls him/herself a conservative and has any prinsiples whatsover cannot support McCain under any circumstances..

Endorsements don’t mean much to me. Endorsing the probable nominee does not enhance nor detract from the endorser’s actual positions on issues - and issue positions are what defines whether someone is conservative or not.

Politicians play a loyalty game. They are loyal, in particular, to their party.

As for me, I choose to be loyal to my principles.

I’m not talking about FR. I’m talking about the MSM and anyone who endorses McCain. Duh.

Kiss enough people to death and pretty soon people will stop kissing you.

Well, you’re obviously a Democrat. I heard McCain expects a lot of Democrats to “cross-over” and vote for him. Nothing new here, I guess.

Perhaps, during your search for virtue, Prokopton, you could take a break and search for a sense of humor as well.

Virtue without humor is ill advised.

It’s about time we cleaned out this party anyway.

Can’t wait to build it from the bottom up starting 1/20/09

McCain at his worst is better than either of those people. I will vote early and often for McCain.

Amen!

Seems like we had a term for it, didn't we? A word, some kind of descriptive phrase. Oh yeah, I remember, we called them . . . "Reagan Democrats."

Seems like I recollect we were sure glad to have them.

It’s a free country, people can endorse and vote for whomever they like.

Also, people can decide freely to NOT TO VOTE for anyone for President if they choose.

Wow, did you have help with that comeback?!
As with most humorless individuals, when you try to venture into that territory, you fail miserably.

What's your solution, Captain Kirk, as your Romulan demonstrated time and again he was unelectable even with mega bucks of campaign cash.

Does Gary also endorse embryonic stem cell research? I’m sure his fellow Christians would like to know.

Wael, I don't have any "prinsiples," though even at my age I get a pimple or two, but I am conservative and I'm voting for McCain.

Want to change that? Get almost anybody but Paul the nomination and I'll vote for them.

What I will not do is use my rancor and resentment as an excuse to enable Obama or Clinton to give us another Vietnam.

McCain is about to receive a makeover like no other. Don’t let the naysayers tell you any different, they’ll hold their noses and vote for him when the time comes.

Not this conservative, wouldn't be prudent!

Not surprise the ferret's on board with McCain like in 2000.

Since they're coming out of the woodwork, where's the crazy-eyed Ralph Reed?

"McCain at his worst is better than either of those people. I will vote early and often for McCain."

WRONG! - Our representatives will fight socialism coming from a rat president much harder than they will coming from a stinking RINO!

Why do you want to reward his bad behavior by making him president? Do you actually want amnesty for all the illegals? Do you actually want us to quit waterboarding terrorists? Do you actually want terrorists to have the same rights as US citizens? Do you actually want to get on board the "global warming" train?

No thanks - I'll take ANY rat for president over him, and count on Republicans in the house and senate to keep them in check.
