10 killed in concert stampede

A stampede at an Indonesian punk rock concert has killed 10 people and injured dozens of others, most of them teenagers.

The crush happened on Saturday night after a show by local band Beside in the regional capital of Bandung on Java island.

Hundreds of fans tried to leave at the same time, causing panic, police said.

Deadly crushes are fairly common at Indonesian pop concerts and sports events, particularly in provincial towns where crowd safety measures are often inadequate.

Police in Bandung were questioning 15 concert organisers, but no arrests had been made.

The 10 victims were trampled to death, and scores of others were being treated for breathing difficulties, said a doctor.

Me too, but it not like this kind of thing hasn't happened here. 11 people were killed during a stampede at a Who concert in Ohio in 1979.

Oh.
I never attended those kind of concerts so I wouldn’t know about that.

They don’t have a chapter there.

You’ll only find them internationally in “white power” zones...IIRC

Actually, they do have their own Indonesian version of Hell’s Angels.

A lot of them ride old vintage WWII Harleys,I think they were called Liberators.

In the early 80’s there were a lot of well maintained vintage motorcycles still being ridden daily in Indonesia.

They dress and act like U.S. Hells Angels and will cut you in (knife is the weapon of choice in Indonesia) a second if you get in an altercation with them.

Yes, but we’ve moved past that . . . now people get trampled at Wal-Mart over Christmas.

My only experience like that was (believe it or not), a Huey Lewis & The News concert back in the mid-1980s. Yes, I'm embarrassed to have to admit I was even at a Huey Lewis & The News concert, but I was still young and stupid in those days.

Anyway, it was festival seating and when the doors opened, I was literally lifted off my feet for several steps as thousands of people crammed through the narrow doorways.

As for the concert, it was awful, as were most rock concerts I intended in stadiums and arenas. Glad I stopped going altogether. If you want to see live music, stick to nightclubs and smaller venues.

So, here it’s “I’d walk over you to see the Who” and there i’s it’s “I’d walk over you to see just about anybody.”

And Cincinatti outlawed "festival seating" until 2004.

I was going to say that we are 29 years ahead of Indonesia, but after reading your link it seems that not even that is true.

Yeah. I can’t wait for the Who and Great White to do a reunion tour together.

Thanks for that info.

The point I was making is that the Hell’s Angels are (regardless of their tactic of being neighborhood friendly/family friendly and more business like in the 1980’s) very pro white/European decent along with all the other illegal racketeering.

I don’t doubt there are other motorcycle gangs of other nationalities. THe Banditos for instance.
