"......at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, Sen. John McCain stood before thousands of conservatives..."

A total fabrication.... the room was filled with McCain supporters.....who cannot be anything but moderates.

“The bigger problem is that all of those independents who voted for him in the primaries will probably vote for the Democrat in the fall.”

This is where our system is broken. How on God’s green earth do we allow NON-REPUBLICANS to have a hand in choosing our nominee? We are now suffering the consequences.

““A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.””

Yep.

If a political party does not stand solidly for something, it stands for nothing of any value. And a party that stands for nothing aims for nothing except power for the sake of power for the sake of it’s office holding members.

Glory to the (R)!
There is comfort only in devotion to the magic of the mighty (R)!
Don’t think, just vote for your (R)!

“I think we are fixin to hit rock bottom. Which may not be a bad thing. Once we’re there we can then climb out of this pit the elitist have thrown us into.”

Don’t know if that’s gonna be possible. After the last time we did that (’94) the Left has grown wiser, and (if possible) more deranged.

This time, when we are knocked into the pit, they are goingt to start shoveling dirt from DAY ONE. We may NEVER get out.

Think Fairness Doctrine, Hate Speech, Amnesty, Felons voting, Illegals voting....the whole nine yards.

I saw Bill Krystol-meth on TV yesterday smugly assuring us that the conservatives will have to fall in line.

I got news Mr "weakly" standard, your boy mclame is going down in flames.

Sure man! I’ll vote for McCain and you will vote for the Hillabeast just because you didn’t get your way. Now you can with thumbs tucked into little fists, you can kick and cream in a tantrum because life didn’t go your way.... yet again.

Some people deals with the situation they are given, do what they can to make it better. Then there are those who just sits there kicking and screaming because their ice cream melted.

So tell me.... What exactly good are achieving with your little rants? Do you have a choice of another candidate? Are you hiding someone from the rest of us? What possible use can it achieve?

Do you REALLY think you are doing the Republicans any good?

I’ve seen people claim that McCain will be tearing the part apart but from where I sit, people like you are doing that just fine without his help.

So in your mind it is fine for people to morally oppose someone but vote for them because they have an R behind their name. At what point do you draw the line as far as your beliefs go? The hold your nose and vote is what has gotten us McCain and Huckabee. There is a time to stand and just say NO! If you want to blame, blame the RNC and the Republican Party for putting all their muscle behind McCain. If they wanted Republican/Conservative they could have put their money where their mouth is and backed Hunter or Thompson.

McCain is a liar and will never support conservatism, he will treat us like the left treats their base and only a fool would believe McCain will alter his path.

With the country so evenly divided, a Republican candidate who requires a "hold-your-nose" vote from Republicans CANNOT WIN.

McCain would be a debacle of historic proportions for the Republicans.

Few are going to vote for "Democrat lite."

The Democrats will vote Democrat and a lot of Republicans will stay home or not vote for President.

Maybe. Maybe not.

To paraphrase Orwell: “imagine a boot, on your face, forever”.

I don’t want to give them that chance with their boot. I’ll support the Republican candidates in November.

McCain is a phony pure and simple. He is a liar and a liberal.
Think, McCain -Feingold on free speech.
McCain - Kennedy on Amnesty for Illegals
Etc., Etc. Etc.
I’m staying home and I wait the revolution of the Taxpayers, when Obama or Clinton try to destroy America.

The Republican party can thank themselves.

So in your mind it is fine for people to morally oppose someone but vote for them because they have an R behind their name.
Why does it get so difficult things sinks in. I didn't sat a word about "have an R behind their name".

The facts are there staring you right in your face and yet you are blind to the facts. You screwballs carry on like you are, we WILL have a democrat like Hillary or Obama as president and both Congress and Senate be ran by dems yet again.

And I will pose the same question I asked earlier. In what stretch of imagination are you doing with your attacks? None what so ever. Zip!

At what point do you draw the line as far as your beliefs go?
You mean if I believe that crackpots like you will elect Hillary? They go quite far. In fact, it is almost a certainty.

The hold your nose and vote is what has gotten us McCain and Huckabee.
Excuse me, I favored Thompson and then Romney. You forget yourself..... as you feel fit to attack those who doesn't carry your water for you.

There is a time to stand and just say NO!
And then what? Say no.... and then what? What in Gods name would you be accomplishing at this point? You mean..... you accomplish putting Hillary and all the rest of that trailer trash in the White House? GOO JOB!

If you want to blame, blame the RNC and the Republican Party for putting all their muscle behind McCain.
Blame? Do I blame people for voting in a free elections? Do I understand that we should all appoint someone that you like? Is that it?

actually, by the time I get to vote, we would already have our nominee. I'll only be able to cast my vote in the national elections and my state elections.

If they wanted Republican/Conservative they could have put their money where their mouth is and backed Hunter or Thompson.
I was shooting for Fred Thompson and by the time he quit, I was only left with Romney.

We have one hope left is everyone goes for Huck and he wouldn't be my first choice either BUT still would be a whole lot better than either of the dems so you go get me a Republican/Conservative for the top Republican contender and I'll vote for him/her but that is highly unlikely.

You can say No... what ever that means but you have to be willing to suck it up and accept Obama pr Hillary your president and all that goes with them. THAT my friend is what your "NO" will get you!

“With the country so evenly divided, a Republican candidate who requires a “hold-your-nose” vote from Republicans CANNOT WIN”

This is where the error in your logic becomes apparent.

The country is NOT “evenly divided” at the moment. If anything, it has “tipped” a bit to favor the Democrats.

There was a poll a little while back (sorry, I don’t recall the source, but I read it right here on FR) that did not ask people specifically who they wanted for president, but rather which political party they “identified” with.

Fully 50% of the respondents replied, the Democratic party.
About 36% identified with Republicans.
That left the rest as independent or otherwise unafilliated.

If one accepts the gist of the poll - and I do - it points toward a VERY difficult struggle for Republicans this year. It indicates to me that no (let me repeat that for emphasis, NO) Republican can win this year without the support of independent and at least a few ‘rat crossover votes.

Numerically, the hard-right conservative Republican vote is only a fraction of the “Republican vote” at large - say, a third at most (and that’s being optimistic). One third of 36% is, well, 12%. With numbers like that, you ain’t bursting through with a hard-nosed conservative candidate. You need someone who appeals to the broadest spectrum of Republicans and who can pull in those wishy-washy independents as well.

There have been moans and groans that McCain was getting too many “independent” votes in the primary process. To me, this is EXACTLY the kind of indicator that he has enough appeal to chase these votes in the general, whereas someone like Fred would probably have had to write them off.

The truth is, the Republican candidate for ‘08 needs the votes of independents _more than_ he needs the vote of hard-right Republicans. The bright-red states are going to go Republican whether the hard right votes or not. But the purple states can ONLY be won with independent and crossover votes.

You will say that the independents will vote ‘rat in the general.
I will reply, “let’s wait for the debates, and other events, and see what happens next.”

I was posting here on FR over two years ago (after the ‘06 midterms) that a conservative candidate probably didn’t have a chance in 2008. I stand by those predictions. I sense the voters - after eight years of “Bush fatigue” - are simply weary of the Republican brand, and, like it or not, could be easily tempted by the appeal of someone so “different” as Osama Obama.

Whether McCain could beat him or Hillary, I can’t say (although in “popularity contest” polls, McCain consistently beat EVERY other Pubbie out there in head-to-head matches against Clinton or Obama. But in those same polls, guys like Thompson and Romney lost badly.

We may be destined to lose this one. I see that coming, but that in itself won’t keep me from voting - and voting Republican. Broken glass, eh?

- John

Nope, I've decided to change my mind, I will vote for Bob Dole II ... Just hope he chooses a young running mate. But in the end, a Democrat is a Democrat, even if it is dressed up as an elephant.

My choice is to do what Rush said, work for the House and Senate conservatives. No money to the RNC, no help, or time for RINOs, only for real conservative candidates, direct. Already did “it’s his turn” Bob Dole I. So tell me how well did that work out? It was basically a hate BJ election. Conservatives are being played, I guess you can't see that point.

If you think electing a President without having a Senate or House power base to back him up on judges or the troops is going to work, then I can’t help you. If we lose the Presidential election which I predict we will, having some power base in the House or Senate will be able to stop the fascists shift of America, or at least slow the march. And that includes the Republican fascist if some miracle happens and the guy in the sombrero wins.

Reality is what it is, you can deny it, but I will see you there when you get done.

I am hoping that McCain picks a conservative to be his VP.

In any event, it seems compleltely suicidal for conservatives to sit out the election and allow Hillary / Obama to be elected. As bad as McCain is, his Supreme Court picks are likely (in my opinion) to be at least marginally better than Hillary/Obama’s would be. McCain may not pick another Scalia (heck, despite what he is saying, he is very unlikely to, except by mistake) but with Hillary/Obama, we get a guaranteed 3 (?) more Ruth Bader Ginsburgs on the court. For me to sit on my hands in November and help allow that to happen, I’d need to be convinced that such a disastrous turn of events would be in the country’s best interests. So far, I just don’t see how that could possibly be the case.

I also think, given McCain’s age and health history, that if we get a solid conservative for Veep, there’s a meaninguful probability that person will end up being president in less than eight years. Also something that won’t happen with a president Mrs. Clinton or Obama.

John Henry is a mythical figure in American folklore who represents the “working man” or the “proletariat”. Juan Hernandez shares his name and probably imagines inside his closed little line that the “working man” is no longer an African-American, but a Mexican.
