I think his economic team could be characterized as pro-growth, lower taxes Friedmanites (free marketers).
I think he would be strong on Defense and the WOT.
I think he would appoint conservative judges. remember it was McCain who supported John Roberts, unlike Ann Coulter.
Although I don’t consider McCain to be “my” guy, I would reluctantly vote for him if he ends up being the nominee, since Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson, and Mitt Romney have all dropped out.
I would have to agree with GregoTX. Aside from the WOT and judges, I know that McCain would at least look out for the military and would not decimate it the way that Clinton did in the 90’s. He would not pull troops out of Iraq precipitously to appease the Moveon.org nuts.
We’ve worked hard to get things to the point where they are now, and just because we’ve had a few setbacks, that’s no reason to sit on our hands and either not vote or throw our votes away on some third party candidate with a snowball’s chance in Hell. Some people see that as “standing on principle”. I see it as political suicide.
A lot of conservatives sat out the 2006 election to “punish” Republicans and “teach them a lesson”. We lost some of our best Reps and Senators, in the process, and we ended up with a nutty DimocRAT majority that does nothing but have show hearings, plays political games with funding our troops, plays political games with taxes, constantly makes remarks that demoralize our troops and give aid and comfort to our enemies, and plays political games with public opinion, and I could go on and on. Yeah, that REALLY worked out well for us, didn’t it?
So now, some of us want to flush the whole thing down the toilet by refusing to support candidates who definitely aren’t as conservative as we want them to be, but at least they are more conservative than the Socialists being offered up by the Dims. We can either help to vote in the most conservative candidate among available candidates who have a chance of winning, and continue the fight to win hearts and minds, or we can just let go and let the Socialists be elected.
And think about this:
If John McCain wins WITHOUT our support, what reason does he have to pay any attention to us at all? We need to be careful not to burn our bridges here.
The good news is that McCain will not be elected president — the bad news is that Obama will be.
I see some call them "Suicide Voters"
Fantastic post Purrcival. Very well put, you have the gift of gab.
Has McCain denied it?
Yes
I do not wan't my kids being crispy critters as this country gets nuked by terrorists while Hillary is singing Kumbayah.
“He is more conservative than President Bush.”
Huh?
“Has McCain denied it?”
Would you believe him if he did?
“I do not wan’t my kids being crispy critters as this country gets nuked by terrorists while Hillary is singing Kumbayah.”
But it’s okay if McCain is doing the singing?
Sorry. I have been taking care of a sick child all weekend and haven’t been paying attention to FR.
It wasn’t much of an endorsement.
They will ALL be giving pretty much the same statements. Heck, Romney did at CPAC when he bowed out.
They know that the GOP is severely fractured right now, and they are just suggesting that McCain is better than Hillary or Obama. And they have a point.
McCain is strong on defense. That won’t happen on his watch.
Nation of Islam supports Obama
http://www.finalcall.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/search.pl
check out obamas web site. He doesnt have a list of supporters like other candidates do. I found this link when searching for islam
Lets See:
Bush Strong on Defense=McCain Strong on Defense
Bush Solid Pro Life=McCain Solid Pro Life
Bush Spendaholic<McCain anti-pork
McCain-Feingold=Bush signed it into law
Bush Conservative Judges=McCain voted for Bork, and all conservative judges, say what you will about the Gang of 14, but if it wasn’t for that, Owen, Brown, Kavenaugh, and Pryor would not have been confirmed.
Bush Open Borders=McCain Open Borders
Bush Namby Pamby Environmentalism= McCain the same.
The only issue that Bush is more conservative than McCain is tax cuts, but McCain will vote to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Because Bush spent like a drunken sailor, and McCain is fiscally prudent, McCain is more conservative than Bush. Tell me where I am wrong.
“Because Bush spent like a drunken sailor, and McCain is fiscally prudent, McCain is more conservative than Bush.”
A Bush-basher who loves McCain. Color me unsurprised.
“I see no consistency here.”
It’s about character.
What do you base that on?
His voting record, and leadership of the surge.
I will vote for him but that doesn’t mean I support him. I’d vote for Godzilla if he ran against the liberals.
