John McCain, the all-but presumptive Republican nominee, told conservative activists this afternoon that he cannot win the presidency without "dedicated conservatives."
"I know I have a responsibility to unite the party," he said.
He acknowledegd that he has had differences with many conservatives but said he hopes they will see that he has the record of a true conservative. "I am proud to be a conservative," McCain said.
... McCain spoke to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington just hours after Mitt Romney used the same venue to announce he is suspending his presidential bid...

You have had a history of reaching out to moderate and liberal Democrats and engaging in back rooms deals - like McCain-Kennedy - but where is your history of reaching out to conservative Republicans? No, you have often thumbed your nose at them.
Ronald Reagan reached out to conservative Democrats and didn't thumb his nose at conservative Republicans, though. He borught them in to help work for conservatism. He did not reach out to liberals to bring them into the Republican Party as liberals.
1.) You have yet to publicly apologize for, recant, renounce McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, the gang of 14... ah, the list goes on and on.
2.) You opposed the Bush tax cuts and have the audacity to say at CPAC today that you will work to make them permanent. Ah, but you may say that you opposed the Bush tax cuts on the grounds that they did not stop earmarks. Spare myself and others that hollow rhetoric.
You engaged in class warfare rhetoric when you brought up that the Bush tax cuts went to the wealthy - and you used the Democrat class warfare card when doing so.
3.) You told Tim Russert on Meet The Press that you would sign the McCain-Kennedy [illegal] immigration bill if you were president:

4.) A pro-choice political action committee - Republicans for Choice - evidently felt comfortable enough with you to endorse you for president. They would not endorse Romney. They themself said this.

5.) You have flip-flopped on abortion.
"But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade...":

I could go on and on about McRino but I won't.
In conclusion: conservative Republicans & Independent Conservatives - don't sit this election out!
Conme out in mass numbers in the general election and vote for conservative Republicans for the House of Representatives, The Senate and Governorships. Try to take the majority in the Senate or at least work (by voting) to preserve a strong Republican filibuster against fiscal, national security and social liberlaism.
Take back the House and have it then as a bulwark against fiscal, national security and social liberalism.
If you want to leave the place where voting for president blank, that's fine. If you want to vote Constitution Party (for example) for president, that's fine.
But, but, but... Hillary or Obama will win the presidency! Some might say this. Some might say that you should hold your nose when voting for McAmnesty.
You can give into that and hold your nose and vote for McAmnesty, or you can choose instead, to hold onto your conservative principles.
The choice is yours.
In the end, the immortal words of Shakespeare come to mind - but with a twist.
To unite around a Rino, or to not unite around a Rino, that's the question.
Again, actions speak louder than words, and McAmnesty has had plenty of time to put his money where his mouth is - but he hasn't - until now.
I wonder why.
To unite around a rino, or to not unite around a rino, that’s is indeed the question.
McCain is like a philandeering husband asking his cuckolded wife to forgive him.
Will conservatives forgive him as Hillary forgave Bill?
Its just plain too late.
McCain made a persuasive case that he is conservative and 180 degrees away from the democrats on a whole host of paramount issues. It was a very good speech.
Sorry mccain but I pride myself on being a maverick. I look forward to “reaching out” to an independent conservative candidate who’s bound to run eventually.
Yes, but watch the MSM spin it so that McCain comes out looking in this. Didn’t he get a standing O at CPAC?
Actions speak louder than words, so his speech at CPAC was hollow. Just words.
He has had plenty of time to put his money where his mouth is, and hasn’t.
Again, I wonder why.
F him period.
Watch what they do not say. Backstabbers like mcstain will talk conservative to get in then move to the left of Ted Kennedy. He must really think we’re a bunch of fools.
Run a “dedicated conservative” and he/she has my vote.
Fantastic. Can I use what you said from time to time?
The boy did everything he could to block EVERYTHING that President Bush tried to accomplish. Mr. McCain invented the RINO label.
Not.
Go for it. We all need to be mavericks and give this clown a taste of his own medicine.
I second that.
I will not do my part to unite around McRino.
