"I think the question," she [Ingraham] said to cheers, "is what have you been doing for conservatism lately? Mitt Romney is the conservatives conservative," she said, suggesting that of all the people who got to introduce candidates at this forum she was the one introducing the conservative.

I knew that you were a Fredhead. I am, too. I merely referenced you in the post as the post to which I was referring by my remark. Maybe I shouldn’t have, I didn’t mean anything by it, except to state that the diatribes have been going on from both sides, pro and con.
well i have seen far more animus against him than cheerleading for him, in the past week or so, and for it to continue at this point just seems ridiculous. talk about arguing about irrelevancies!! LOL!
“Had Laura introduced Ronald Reagan as a conservatives conservative at CPAC in 1975, she would have gotten similar comments to what she’s getting here.”
Reagan, or “Ronnie Raygun” as he was known then in a derisive national nickname, mocking his rabid conservatism, was seen as a radical, far right guy.
Reagan was known for his right wing battles from at least his days in Hollywood, he fought the communists during the McCarthy era.
Romney was a vocal critic of conservatism before he started this campaign, and has never been bloodied for anything, in his entire self serving life.
Romney was anti-Reagan.
Ronald Reagan liberalized abortion laws in his first term as Governor.
Ronald Reagan was a former Democrat.
Ronald Reagan was President of SAG.
Comparing that record to Romneys record as a first term Governor in Massachusetts in an interesting exercise.
You cannot deny that Reagan was a rightwinger and was nationally known as exactly that since the forties,
“In 1947, as SAG president, Reagan testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee regarding the influence of communists in the motion picture industry. Strongly opposed to communism, he reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, stating, “As a citizen, I would hesitate to see any political party outlawed on the basis of its political ideology. However, if it is proven that an organization is an agent of foreign power, or in any way not a legitimate political party and I think the government is capable of proving thatthen that is another matter... But at the same time I never as a citizen want to see our country become urged, by either fear or resentment of this group, that we ever compromise with any of our democratic principles through that fear or resentment.”
“A registered Democrat and admirer of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Reagan supported the New Deal before shifting rightwards out of a desire for a more limited federal government, endorsing the presidential candidacies of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 as well as Richard Nixon in 1960.[40] Following the election of John F. Kennedy, Reagan formally switched to the Republican Party in 1962, saying “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.”[41] During his work for General Electric, Reagan wrote his own speeches, laboring diligently and daily upon his prose. Although he had speechwriters later in the White House, he continued editing, and even occasionally writing, many of his speeches.”
“Two years after switching parties, Reagan joined the campaign of conservative presidential contender Barry Goldwater. Speaking on Goldwater’s behalf, Reagan revealed his ideological motivation in a famed speech given on October 27, 1964: “The Founding Fathers knew a government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.”[43] The address soon became known as the “Time for Choosing” speech, and is considered the speech that launched Reagan’s political career.”
Situations are different from era to era, Reagan actually created conservative history for many decades, but in 2005 the 57 year old Mitt Romney was still a liberal.
Until about 120 million dollars ago, Mitt was nationally known as a liberal to moderate republican, he has never busted his chops for anyone, least of all conservatism.
The facts are as I laid them out.
I am a Ronald Reagan supporter. I didn't vote for him in 76 0r 80 because of his record as Governor. Both times I wrote in Bob Doles name because he was the toughest SOB conservative around.
I was wrong about that. Just like you might be wrong about Romney.
“Ansell, you can’t change the facts by screaming about commies. And BTW, Romney is not a commie or a supporter of same”
With that kind of comprehension it is easy to see how you voted against Reagan and for Bob Dole.
Regards.
Huckabee was the most conservative candidate left in the field after Thompson dropped. Romney universal health care, $50 copay in it for abortions and the like. I’ve been stunned by how easily Freepers bought into something that was obviously false in claiming Romney as a conservative.
Kinda like I'm stunned you think Huck is a conservative. But whatever. Your disappointment is coming soon as well.
I agree Romeny was the best of the RINOS left standing.
I have a lost a lot of respect for talk radio hosts and lost a lot of hope that this country would continue to be a beacon of freedom
FReepers handle it by talking third party she handles it by going nuts
I dont know how anyone can handle that first thing in the morning.
I actually like her radio show and I listen to it first thing in the morning when I get to work. However, she does seem ridiculous when she turns her entire show into a infomercial for one candidate or another like she did in 2006 and on Tuesday. Also she called Bob Dole a “loser” 4 times and then said it wasn’t personal. In my book calling someone a “loser” is what someone with the emotional maturity of a third grader does.
