Latest from a Congressional task force. What better way to help solve the pension problem than screw the military fighting the war on terror?

This is clearly a Dem attack on the military. Men and women volunteer to die for their country if necessary, so let’s change a 100 year tradition.

That's pretty crappy.

Basically:
* Less than 20 years - Retirement pay begins at age 62
* At least 20 years - Retirement pay at age 60
* At least 30 years - Retirement pay at age 57

You could draw retirement pay at an earlier age, but for each year you are under the minimum retirement age, you get 5% knocked off the annuity.

Challenging legistlation to pass.

At any rate, it would only be implemented for new recruits - DoD has been discussing retirement reform for awhile now.

This is what needs to be said to our elected officials.

If you’re going to stick a knife in someones back, don’t do it to a soldier because he generally has someone covering his back who will put a bullet in your head.

Throughout my lifetime the ‘someone covering his back’ was always a Vet and I am not going to let our soldiers get stuck without a fight from me.

Time to get on the phone and start calling the Congressmen to let them know that their retirement needs the same age limits but pushed to 67 years of age!

This would cripple the vounteer force. The military needs to retain a core of experienced NCO’s and Officers. The current retirement system is a powerful motivation to stay in.

That is a perfect way to get new recruits who will make the military a career selection. Those who do their time in the trenches and the front-line deserve their benefits as sson as they have served their 20 years just like every other federal job. Why don’t they do that to the IRS Auditors, U.S. Marshalls, Secret Service, F.B.I. agents, N.S.A. Employees, or better yet the W.I.C., Welfare, TANF, HUD and Social Security employees, etc. etc.! The reason is the pandering to the extreme left! I wouldn’t mind the military giving up theirs as long as the rest of the federal entities would also including the Congress and elected representatives.

So an 18 year old joins the Army, retires at 38 as a master sergeant and has to wait an additional twenty years to collect his retirement.

First, that’s EXACTLY the same plan (less about 2 or 3 years) for the National Guard. (Why would anyone go active duty instead of National Guard under such a plan?)

Second, they’re cheating that master sergeant out of 2000 dollars a month for 20 years. That’s 24000x20 = $480,000.

A time of war is just the time to screw the American fighting man.

This is the kind of garbage that makes me think another Soldier’s March on Washington, DC, is long, long past due.

Our soldiers are one of the few remaining things good about our country. Leave to those who deserve honor the least to come up with a way to screw them.

Wonder if Congress will look at reforms to their pension plan:

Members are eligible to start collecting at age 62 if they have at least five years of service. If they have 20 years of service under their belt, they can retire at 50. With 25 years of service, they can retire any time.

When my son has 30 years in the military (he enlisted but is now an officer in the USAF), he will be 48 years old—and not eligible for retirement pay for another NINE years?
