We are beginning to see signs that Mitt Romney might be preparing to pull out of the Republican race.
Everyone is looking for tea leaves from the campaign, and we'll know more about the governor's state of mind when we hear from him at CPAC today. But in the last 24 hours, I have noticed a dramatic drop-off in the number of emails I have received from Team Romney. This is no small thing. Every reporter will tell you they receive reams of emails from the Romney campaign. But the last one I got was at 1:47 p.m. yesterday, advising me of Romney's campaign schedule in Maryland. Before that, I last received on at 8:37 a.m., advising me of Romney's CPAC speech.
Normally in that time period, I would have received lots of emails telling me, among other things, that John McCain's Straight Talk Express had taken a detour. For example, I would have expected to receive one about McCain's "calm down" remark. But nothing from the Romney camp. I wondered whether the campaign is dialing back its aggressiveness in preparation for a Romney withdrawal. . . .

Someone's been staring at the tea leaves and chicken entrails too long...
I’m with you Greg. I’m a Romney supporter but right now I support both of them because if either drop McCain has it locked up without having to break a sweat.
It’s the last paragraph of the article that got me to post it:
“A few moments ago, I spoke to someone in the Romney camp. Would I be crazy to read that into the email traffic? “You would not be crazy to read that into it,” he said. “There have been a lot of discussions going on about whether there is a path to victory, and not wanting to look destructive at what might be the end. You are reading the right thing into it.”
I want Mitt to stay in there and the Huckster to drop out. The Huckster never had a chance and he’s a LIBERAL. The race has always been between McCain and Mitt.
The RINO elites are pushing hard. Mitt should stay in. Heck, even Huckabee should stay in, assuming McCain is the eventual nominee.
If Conservatives fall in line behind McCain NOW, we will be ignored forever.
Independents from Blue states have secured the nomination for McCain. They will mostly vote Democrat after several months of MSM brainwashing.
McCain has to come to US to win.
If MR leaves the race, MH will follow because MH is counting on the VP spot and he thinks that will get it for him from JM.
Ditto!
If McCain wins, I’m hoping for Obama. He’s the Jimmy Carter of our time. It took Jimmy Carter to bring us Reagan so I’m willing to suffer 4 year of him.
But NEVER Hitlary Clinton. She’s Stalin in a pants suit.
Romney may not wish to continue to throw money at an impossible nomination.
There will undoubtedly be those who will scream “IT AINT TRUE” but the simple fact is that these rumors are never a good sign. There will also be those who will say that he says he won’t drop out but not many candidates ever admit to being ready to leave the race.
and a crusty pantsuit at that.....
Huck would have to get his lips peeled off of McCain's butt first. Have you not noticed that McCain and Huck are on the same team against Romney?
Like McCain and Huckabee did in West Virginia? Tell me, where does the Huckster really differ with McCain? Pro-life and letting us keep our guns? That's about it, isn't it?
Romney is a watered-down conservative in the mold of George Bush (without the enthusiasm for illegal aliens) but Huckabee is no conservative at all.
TIME reporting Romney is pulling out.
FOX just this minute reporting “solid sources” claim he’ll drop out today.
Romney is a liar. McCain for President!
&*(&#^$
It’s official. The George Soros takeover of the republican party is complete.
God help us all.
stop this already. McCain won for all practical purposes so we have to figure out how to get him to listen to us.
Fox reports just now that Mark Halprin (sp?) from Time has this “triple sourced:” Romney departs today.
