CASTALIAN SPRINGS, Tenn., Feb. 6 -- The searchers had already gone over the field once.
It seemed unlikely that anything else would turn up. It was dark and rainy, and amid the awesome wreckage left by the tornado that had just passed here they had already found three dead. Some of the bodies had been flung hundreds of feet from their homes, landing in tangles of branches and across the roadway.
Then they stumbled upon Kyson.
The 11-month-old, dressed in a T-shirt and diaper, was lying as silently as any piece of debris in a field of tall grass about 100 yards from the now-leveled duplex where he once lived. He was face down in the mud, covered in bits of grass like many of those who had been cast about by the dozens of tornadoes that had careened across the South.
"It's not a baby doll -- it's alive," called out David Harmon, 31, an emergency worker from nearby Wilson County. He had first thought the boy was made of plastic.
Kyson, to the surprise of rescuers, had survived being tossed by winds that had not only flattened the brick post office next door but had killed his 23-year-old mother, throwing her several yards in the opposite direction, into some fallen trees.
"The baby was just shivering like this," said Keith Douglas, interim director of emergency medical services for Sumner County, who was on the scene, putting his fists to his chest, pressing his elbows to his sides. "He was cold and scared, and he had this blank look in his eyes."

Well, they may be female (if they can be said to have gender at all). But that picture surely isn’t of Christian angels. Sexy, blonde, thin, buxomous and Dianic? It seems a little like Mohammed’s promise of 72 virgins.
Thank you for posting this story! Prayers have been lifted up for all in the path of those horrible storms, since they started their rampage night before last.
So many have lost loved ones, so many seriously hurt, so many homes destroyed! May He BLESS each precious soul in special ways.
IMHO, now is not the time to bicker about whether angels are male or female. Geesh!
did you see this?
Many prayers going out to the people who went through this sudden horror. Many of those who were spared their lives lost their homes and possessions and I can only imagine how devastated they are.
As for little Kyson, apart from the tragedy of losing his mother, he is lucky that he is alive, will have no memory of the event, and has grandparents that are young enough to raise him. I feel for the grandfather though, it must be very hard to find your daughter dead like that. He was probably hoping against hope all the way there that they would both be okay. My heart aches for them and all the others.
“But that picture surely isnt of Christian angels.”
Too bad.
video here. Beautiful young woman, what a shame. Adorable baby!
Thanks. Prayers for the family & thanks that the little boy is alive.
Short version: Those aren't angels. They are putti. It's mostly centuries of sloppiness that's gotten them labeled angels.
your out of place ‘off topic’ wrecked this thread
thank you for the ping. What a miracle! Am I assume from your comments (and the obvious devastation) that this little baby’s parents are both dead? How awful. Thank the Lord that this little guy is alive. Again, thank you for the ping.
Do you really need to nitpick? Maybe that’s what some people believe, can’t you respect that right? Unfortunately, not everyone reads the bible. And among many that do, not all of them read it the way you do!
I have businesses near there.
The TEMA workers who found the baby were quite choked up when they stopped in to clean up afterwards at one of my washes.
but you can't resist
You're correct, in the Bible they're male and and they have strength. Perhaps some people are not aware of this.
Tell us the story!
I would love to hear the story, but that would be an invitation to an argument. I’d rather be deprived of the story than watch the inevitable insults.
I’ve been praying for all those affected by these tornadoes. Another prayer is on the way for this precious babe and his family.
I wasn't the one that put blonde women up as angels and somehow inferred they were sacred. Doesn't the Jesus figure like women that aren't blonde? Why don't we just tie a yellow ribbon around an oak tree, or better yet wear one. That would show our solidarity with the storm victims. Oh, and don't forget to light a candle, that's sure to help them.
No I had not heard this story or seen the video. Thank you very much!!! God will provide for that child. Has already done so miraculously. Thank God for loving grandparents. Prayers continue for those who have lost loved ones and everything they owned and for all the devastation. Am glad President Bush will be coming to TN today.
