In a surprise twist after a chaotic Super Tuesday, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) passed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in network tallies of the number of delegates the candidates racked up last night.
The Obama camp now projects topping Clinton by 13 delegates, 847 to 834.
NBC News, which is projecting delegates based on the Democratic Party's complex formula, figures Obama will wind up with 840 to 849 delegates, versus 829 to 838 for Clinton.
Clinton was portrayed in many news accounts as the nights big winner, but Obamas campaign says he wound up with a higher total where it really counts the delegates who will choose the partys nominee at this summers Democratic convention.
With the delegate count still under way, NBC News said Obama appears to have won around 840 delegates in yesterdays contests, while Clinton earned about 830 give or take a few, Tim Russert, the networks Washington bureau chief, said on the Today show.
The running totals for the two, which includes previous contests and the party officials known as superdelegates, are only about 70 delegates apart, Russert said.
The bottom line is that the two are virtually tied.
Obama won 13 states, some of them smaller, and Clinton won eight.
On Wednesday morning, the battle was on to shape public perceptions about Tuesday.
The Clinton campaign said it was crunching its delegate numbers but was not sure it was correct that Obama got more.
The Obama campaign sent an e-mailed statement titled: Obama wins Super Tuesday by winning more states and more delegates.
Campaign Manager David Plouffe said: By winning a majority of delegates and a majority of the states, Barack Obama won an important Super Tuesday victory over Sen. Clinton in the closest thing we have to a national primary.
From Colorado and Utah in the West to Georgia and Alabama in the South to Sen. Clintons backyard in Connecticut, Obama showed that he can win the support of Americans of every race, gender and political party in every region of the country, Plouffe said. Thats why hes on track to win Democratic nomination, and thats why hes the best candidate to defeat John McCain in November.
The Obama campaign attached an Excel spreadsheet containing state-by-state estimates of the pledged delegates we won last night, which total 845 for Obama and 836 for Clinton bringing the to-date total of delegates to 908 for Obama, 884 for Clinton.
Does this take into account Super delegates?
Isn't this what politicians do with everything: Make it so complex that any result is possible??
C'mon, they are still trying to calculate delegates?

My prediction: Neither one gets enough delegates for the nomination.
no
I just saw an article that said she's lending her campaign a few million dollars. And that's just what's being reported. I'll bet there's no shortage of money there.
But for Mr. Obama, Hillary would be polishing her tiara by this time.
She lent her campaign 5 million today.
In other news, Obama raised 5.9 million+ *today* (with a couple hours to go) in response.
Wouldn't be surprised if this were just another Clintonian trick so she can play herself up as the Underdog. If Obamba is viewed as the front runner in the eyes of the media, they may be forced to render some (albeit token) critical coverage of him.
Both are claiming to be the underdog.
Obama is going to win most or maybe even all of the primaries/caucuses over the next two weeks. Meanwhile, he is raking in the dough and she is struggling for money.

Her hubby’s loaded.. (in more ways than one usually, btw), coughed up 5 million today
If Mitt withdraws, I'm going to cross-over and vote for Obama here in the Texas primary. Wouldn't it be a gas if we Republicans started messing with the Democratic nomination process like they did with us.
Mr. Obama is far too respectful for that crack addled charlatan.
Crockbama is a lot more appropriate, given the vapid inane ramblings that he calls a speech. He’s positively the worst embarassment I’ve ever seen offered by either political party in my life. I would vote to re-elect Jimmy Carter before I’d cast a vote for Crock.
TOTAL DELEGATES
Delegate Definitions
The current count: (o what is Barry talking about?)
Hillary Clinton
Pledged: 630
Superdelegates: 193
Total: 823
Barack Obama
Pledged: 635
Superdelegates: 106
Total: 74
the idea that the frontrunner, the lady with more bagmen and corporate campaign cash than anyone else being the underdog is patently ridiculous.
She is only the underdog because people are deciding at a very fast rate that they like Obama a lot more
