I’ve been on this since it came out - it’s made a world of difference except for the local police/fireman calling asking for money they should get from the government in the first place.
Why can’t we get a “do not mail” list too? That’s where they’re going now anyway.

You would think that if we could send a man to the moon, we could stop unwanted FAXs.

Why is this the govt’s problem? How about we pass a bill that says if there are no good ideas left, the legislators can go home, with pay, just to stay out of mischief?

Okay, so Congress did one thing right out of 5000. A toast—to the one thing done correctly.

I don't know what we (my family) would do without caller ID. No ID, No answer. Not quite true. Mostly an answer and hang up. We still get annoying repeat calls that seem to be immune to any kind of "No Call" instructions.
A lot of calls with caller ID get a quick answer/hang up if we suspect that they are not something we want. Too bad congress can't impose a death penalty on unwanted calls, faxes and emails.

Put this tone on the front-end of your answer message and the robo-callers will think your number is no longer valid, and you will be taken out of their system. Your normal callers may be spooked a little, but once they hear your voice talking, they'll leave you a message.

Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, put it in political terms: "With a 10 percent approval rating it is incumbent upon us to continue to pass legislation that is indeed popular." Dear Mr. Burgess,
If congress did indeed give a rat's ass about how the public views it, you people would secure the border and prosecute employers for hiring illegals. Nah, fighting annoying phone calls is much more important. What a PantLoadTM

Do Not Call list is great, even if imperfect.
For the stuff that slips through:
NEWS FLASH!
You are under no moral or legal obligation to talk to these creeps.
When some critter I don't know calls ... I immediately demand (sometimes quite harshly) who is calling and what their business is. Also who they're trying to reach, unless they specify me (by both first and last name) up front.
If I don't like the answer, I hang up.
You don't have to "convince" them of anything. You don't have to engage them in conversation for any purpose.
Just hang up.
