House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has remained neutral in the Democratic presidential primary. So much so that instead of spending Super Tuesday getting out the vote in her state's crucial primary contest or capitalizing off all the press attention -- she stayed in Washington to schmooze with a NASCAR driver.
Pelosi, who voted on an absentee ballot last week (for whom, we know not), hosted two-time defending NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson in her Capitol suite Tuesday afternoon for the ostensible purpose of congratulating him on his recent victory.
The meeting and photo-op is also a great chance for House Democrats to continue making inroads with the "NASCAR Dad" vote. But House Republicans are hoping to cut Democrats off at the pass, especially in light of the little controversy last fall in which a Democratic official suggested staffers should get immunizations for various diseases before heading on a congressional delegation trip to NASCAR Country. Democrats later said the suggestion was made because staffers would be visiting health care facilities -- and had nothing to do with NASCAR.
But the perceived gaffe was a gift to Republicans, who kicked their spin machine into overdrive trying to win political points with the coveted NASCAR constituency. They continued today, with word that Pelosi was meeting with Johnson.

Isn’t Lowes his sponsor?
Jimmy Johnson just made a lot of his fans cough up their coffee when they read that he is “shmoozing” with her...
Jimmie just ruined his career.
I would hate to have to spend my days picketing at Lowes, and promoting Home Depot and Tony, but I will.
I am no fan of Jimmie Johnson, but to be fair, its not like he only met with Pelosi. He did meet with the President, Went to the Senate and Congress. So I think it is only fair to say that he met with Pelosi out of respect because she is the speaker. Like it or not.
If Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are the face of NASCAR, it will go the way of the GOP.
Now, if we could only get restricter plates put on Nancy’s mouth.
Lot of NASCAR fans in her San Francisco district are there?
Put in a car and let her race Tony Stewart
I’m willing to give Jimmie the lee-way on this as well. I’m sure he didn’t seek out Stretch for the invitation, but once made, she is Speaker, she is from California, and I think Jimmie was just being polite.
Reading the comments section at the article is enlightening - only a few liberal bigots and the rest anti-Pelosi and Dems. Can’t wait to see Hildebeest trying to get the NASCAR vote at the 500 in two weeks.
Yeah, if Stretch and Shrillery are reeeeeally brave, let’s see them head to Daytona and get introduced to the fans..or better yet, visit Dega in April - first Daytona always has that contingent of “there to be seen” ahos who wouldn’t know a restrictor plate from a dinner plate.
Now that’s a pair.
Go Tony!
Better yet - put her IN the car with Tony Stewart for a few laps around Dayton and watch all those face lifts and botox unravel.....
Of course, Tony would need to be immunized first......
LOL
Nancy: He’s too close to my bumper. I’m going to tap the brakes to scare him a little.
Pit Chief: I wouldn’t do that, maam.
Hope Nancy gets inoculated from all the diseases that run rampant at the Nascar races. ;-)
