McCain takes aim at Romney's remark on Dole
cnn ^

(CNN) – Mitt Romney is backing away from a statement that seemed to denigrate former GOP presidential candidate Robert Dole, who wrote a letter to Rush Limbaugh yesterday defending the former Massachusetts governor’s main Republican rival, John McCain.

In a FOX interview Tuesday morning, Romney had said the former Kansas senator was “probably the last person I would have wanted to have write a letter for me.”

While Romney is being silly, I advise you to get a better handle on the meaning and contextualization of the word “indignant” before you post further.

It was LBJs ad with “the girl, the daisy and the bomb” that destroyed BG.

The whole truth!

Let’s get Haley Barbour to start running RIGHT NOW. I’ve been on board with him since he was the RNC chair.

I am greatly saddened by the viciousness of this (and many other threads I read on FR).

I just want to remind everyone that the Internet is the "true elephant" that never forgets.

Once you post a vitriolic message, it is available to the rest of the world, essentially, forever.

We are going to need to line up Republican support against the Dim nominee, and it is going to be very difficult after the vitriol I see posted here.

You can welcome Billary back into the White House at your (and my) peril.

Don't forget that McCain was the only Republican member of the Keating Five Scandle. Not only does he vote with Dems most of the time, but he steals accepts unlawful money with them too.

“Goldwater’s pathetic effort in 1964 was far and away the worst effort by a GOP nominee over the last 50 years. “

What!!! I thought he had the help of ‘Goldwater girl’, hillary rodham.

You attack only Romney - and in such an ineffective way. No way can you explain away McCain’s amnesty votes that border on treason, his adultery, his mental problems, etc. No way can you explain away Huckabee’s incredible stupidity, nanny state programs, and dishonesty. McCain/Hillary/Obama are bad news for this country.

Good job of taking his words out of context.

Fox News’ Steve Doocy: “Governor, what do you make of the letter that Bob Dole wrote to Rush Limbaugh that says, ‘Lay off of John McCain he is conservative enough?’ Do you buy that from Bob?”

Governor Romney: “Well, it’s probably the last person I would have wanted to have write a letter for me. I think there are a lot of folks who tend to think that maybe John McCain’s race is a bit like Bob Dole’s race. That it’s the guy who’s the next in line. He’s the inevitable choice and we’ll give it to him and then it won’t work.

“I think that the right course for a winning campaign against someone like Barack Obama is going to have to be somebody who can speak with energy and passion about the future of America, not another Senator who can say, ‘Well here is what I did on bill H-1234. Here is what I did on my committee assignment.’ The American people are so tired of listening to Senators talk about their bills and their committees. They want to know how somebody has accomplished something for the people of their state or their city, somebody who has built a business, who ran the Olympics. They want somebody who has been in the real economy to fix our national economy.”

I agree Dole's campaign was a joke. Notice Romney or I didn't say anything about his military service.

Must be this new Conservatism where you are indignant to War Heroes.

Oh puhleeze. Trying to turn this into an insult to people who served in the military is something out of the liberals "Handbook for Whiners."

Dole was a big loser and I just saw his loser buddy Jack Kemp on Fox attacking Romney. McCain will be another loser ala Bob Dole.

Your tag: (If Islamic Jihad is an existential threat then the candidate that should be POTUS is a no brainer.)

And you support an Amnesty, Open Borders candidate?

Your candidate is a mean, nasty, arrogant, self-centered little man that should have a "D" by his name or better yet a "DBD" for Drive-By Darling.

If you get your candidate the nomination I will pull an Ann Coulter and vote for Hillary and pray a Conservative Phoenix will rise from the ashes.

good post.

Honestly, I’ve listened to Rush for years, but I just can’t stand him lately. Add in Ingrahm, Hannity, Hewitt...

The McCain bashing is boring me. Enough already. I have no love for the guy. None. But to put Hillary or Obama in charge of our military is a real bad effin thing.

So if it’s McCain, so be it. I’ll vote for him.

If you think by not running the “Daisy Ad” in 1964 Goldwater would have upset LBJ, you guys are inflicted with a serious case of delusional psychosis.

And next time, ping me.

“probably the last person I would have wanted to have write a letter for me.”

For whatever anyone says about Dole, I'd want him and his experience in my corner if I was running for president.

Romney's a complete schmuck if he said this.

Romney implied

LOL Hardly. Romney 'implied' that Dole is a loser when it comes to running a campaign, so who cares what he thinks.
