After Ron Paul was eliminated in the first round, McCain had his delegates all go for Huckabee, which combined to get just over the 50% needed, to something like 47% for Romney.

McCain and Huckabee are playing tag team against Romney.

“So do I. You take your life into your hands if you say you are a Republican in LA.”

I just heard one of the most brilliant pieces of humorous political writing I’ve ever heard, and it was on National Public Radio!
A guy named Don Long (I believe) who’s a Hollywood screenwriter and a lifelong Republican did a piece with music to describe California Republicans for today’s pivotal primary. It was wonderful. He took listeners on an aural journey around the state and talked about all the different types of Republicans in California, from Orange County Nixon Republicans to central coast Reagan Republicans to Silicon Valley dot.com young entrepreneur Facebook widget Republicans to super-rich “death tax” San Diego and Beverley Hills Republicans to central Valley Mexican immigrant evangelical Republicans to northern California country-western traditional values conservatives first, Republicans second, to LA and Marin County Schwarzenegger Republicans who drop their gay sons and daughters off at the yogurt shop they manage and swear their love for Arnold as “a true conservative!”
He ended the piece by saying something like: it used to be that there was a little bit of America in every California Republican, now there’s a little bit of California in every Republican. I wish everyone on Free Republic could have heard his work. I loved it.

Voted for Romney in California. The latest Zogby poll had Romney ahead by 7 points over McCain. I hope that’s right.

I’m doing the same in a few hours. I just heard someone on FNC say the youth vote is 18-29. I had 4 kids at 29. No wonder it’s taking people so long to grow up. No real responsibilities.

Maybe I missed something, but I don't think Mitt Romney has made his position within the LDS church part of his campaign.

What? You don't think underneath his "Faith in America" Mormon speech in early December was this carefully hidden platform of his with the title "LDS bishop" and "LDS stake president" written on it? His less than 3 yo new position on abortion just happens to match the LDS position on abortion--the one he administered when he was a bishop.

Romney's "identity" politics is in some ways carrying him much further than Huck.

This is occurring on many different levels.

It’s happening at the vote level: Huckabee got 34% of the vote in a 60% Evangelical turnout in Iowa. Almost 1 in 5 Evangelical Iowans voted for Romney...Can you imagine Romney only getting 34% in Utah? The 8-10% of Nevada LDS voters, who made up a quarter of the Nevada GOP, went 94% for Romney. (The LDS voters helped him to carry Wyoming).

(Could you imagine how crazy the MSM & FReepers would go if 94% of Evangelicals supported an Evangelical candidate in any given state? But with Willard, another free pass)

It’s happening at the financial level: According to the Deseret News, 79% of the candidate $ raised in Utah is going Romney (which I figured was about 91% of the GOP candidate $ from Utah going to Romney).

(Could you imagine how crazy the MSM & FReepers would go if the most Evangelical state in the union had 91% of GOP $ to an Evangelical candidate? But with Willard, another free pass)

It’s happening at the core identificational level: Romney’s father’s cousin, Marion G. Romney, was one of the top three general authorities in the church in the 60s. Six generations ago, Romney’s ancestor was an “apostle”—as was his brother. In fact, this apostle converted a person who eventually became an LDS “prophet” of the church.

PREDICTION: IF (please GOD do not allow it to be so) but IF Hitlery is elected, I predict there will be a re-institution of the Draft. Hillery Clintons obvious and well documented disdain for the military, I believe will make the “volunteer” force under her as CinC, become desimated due to the military early retiring or not re-enlisting due to not wishing to serve under someone who despises all they stand for.
Obama scares me, McCain disgusts me, Hillary terrifies me!

The cabal between McCain and Huckabee is so transparent. My one solace is the satisfaction that I judged both of these men correctly several months ago. At least I won’t have any anxiety as to what to do if the two “fake” conservatives pull off their coup. It will be third party for me all the way, and I will actively campaign AGAINST either of them.

Pollywog and you are the ones who base your votes on religion; not me.

I base my votes upon several considerations, including other-worldly commitments...as do the majority of Americans (54% said they would not vote for an atheist).

On the other hand, take a look at post #369 and you'll see the real folks who apparently base their votes and support upon religion (and everybody gives them a free pass...how inconsistent of you and them).

That’s the only way anyone would serve under her.

OT: Funny how Obama’s cousin Odinga and his muslim voters have killed over a thousand in Kenya and no one asked him about it... especially when he keeps in touch with him often.

West Virginia is a caucus. The party officials (only) vote.

Pathetic. These two, McCain and Huckabee, might win but, as is the case with all conquerors, they’ll take control of territory they had to destroy first. A power grab for something, once they’ve grabbed it, that will have little value because they did grab it. Neither of these two anachronisms will ever be President so what is their purpose other than to obstruct and destroy?

I can only hope Obama wins the Dem race since IMO this is the only way to avoid another Clinton in the WH. :-(
