In Berkeley, Push to Rescind Letter to Marines

A week after blasting the Marines as "unwelcome intruders" in Berkeley, two City Council members want the city to back off the declaration that ignited the wrath of the nation's right wing and inspired a Republican senator to try to sever Berkeley's federal funding.

Council members Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli on Monday proposed that Berkeley rescind its letter to the U.S. Marine Corps that stated that the downtown Berkeley recruiting center "is not welcome in our city," and publicly declare that Berkeley is against the war but supports the troops.

The City Council will vote on Olds' and Capitelli's two proposals at its meeting next Tuesday.

"I think we shouldn't be seen across the country as hating the Marines," said Olds, who voted against last week's proposals. "If you make a mistake, like we did, you should admit it and correct it and move on."

“Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli”

The last 2 non-communists alive in Berkeley!

What a joke.

“The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce supports the men and
women of our armed forces. We believe in a community where
ALL voices can be heard.”

That’s the banner line on the Berkeley Chamber’s website.

I sent them a little email. “ALL voices” my arse!

You should’ve seen what they had up before this. A whine about how the Chamber doesn’t control the City Council. But I’ll betcha those businessmen and women donated to the councilmembers’ campaigns...

Councilmember Darryl Moore said some of the complaints may have come from people who never planned on visiting Berkeley in the first place.

"Those people don't live anywhere near Berkeley and who's to say that they were coming to Berkeley to begin with?" he said. "I just think it would be unfortunate if the chamber did some sort of knee-jerk reaction to all of this."

Kind of like the knee-jerk action you took, you moron?

It’s really clear the retreat of the Berkeley “leadership” is all about money. They did not expect a backlash, given the dream-world they occupy, so when individual business men pushed back, they folded like a house of cards. This tells us all we need to know about anti-American leftists. They are cowardly, hypocritical bullies who will fall back at the first punch. And, they have two exemplary standard bearers in the form of Hillary Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama.

Too late! Best outcome, Marines stay and Berkeley gets no Federal dollars. (Sigh, wishful thinking) . BTW, do read Section 4b.14, close to the top of the PDF file found in the following posts. Berkeley’s “Peace and Justice Commission” made the recommendation (very nasty stuff, btw). The country needs to read this very carefully.

Also, the Telephone Number of the Chairperson is at the bottom of the recommendation, I believe. (See post #50)

Here is the link to Section 4b.14. It is a very large PDF file, and even with my fast laptop it takes a few minutes to load.

These people are such hypocrites. If their city was under siege by Muslim terrorists, who would they call on for help? Imagine them begging for troops to help them, and being told “We’re sorry, the U.S. Marines will not help you!” ?

Too late, sweetie. It's also too late to late to hide the knowledge that Berkley is full of loons. Sorry, but the cat is out of the bag.

Gee Mr. Moore, nothing like rolling out the Welcome mat.
What is this guy trying to do, make sure NO ONE wants to visit Berkeley?

Well, THAT’s leadership I tell ‘ya!

I’d like a peek at his magic crystal ball.

My letter to the Berkely city council.

Too late.

No amount of backpedaling will reverse the damage you have done to your image.

Your reputation as BESERKely is now cemented.

Your treacherous statement of contempt for, and your shameful treatment of the Marines has gained for you our lasting contempt and disdain.

Enjoy now the financial and public relations consequences of your egregious temper tantrum against the defenders of the very freedoms you enjoy.

Regards,

What a bunch of clowns! First they bite the hand that feeds them and insult out troops. Now it’s “Oh! We didn’t know!”... What a bunch of BS!

Have the Army put Constantina wire around the place... No one in, no one out so as to trap this insipid contagion before it can get around...

You know, if it is true, giving them (the Chamber) the benefit of the doubt. It is still really stupid of the Chamber to put that message on their website right now.....

I would dearly love to see federal funding for Berkley - all of it, including student loans terminated. if they don’t want to support those who stand between them and the reality of a dangerous world, then let them live without federal ‘inteference’.

if they don’t like us, then why are we paying our enemies???

it would be far better not to task their consciences by having them take money from those they abhor.
