Recommend to everyone to see the movie “The Prestige”, tons of fun.
Edison as a bad guy; like I said, tons of fun.
Tesla is the Father of TinFoil Hat Theory. Lightning farms, rail guns, earth power transmission.. And his files disappeared from his vault after his death.
I love reading about him. One of the most interesting characters ever.

Earth: A Self-repairing Capacitor
Tesla, a true prophet, treated as all prophets are; dying unknown in a NY hotel, the pigeons his only friends. And yet he is talking about the 400,000 V electro-potential gradient between the earth and ionosphere, have you ever thought about what would happen if you discharged that capacitor? Like no LIGHTNING.... Hey, this is the same danger as the space elevator, the tether line discharges the giant spherical capacitor. The entire world’s WEATHER changes. No, even if it’s a resistor moisture(grounding path)will condense on it; plus the debye effect in LEO.
So, Tesla had it right about the 50 V/m electro-potential gradiant but don’t get delusions of grandeur about tapping it for massive amounts of energy, the EPA will collar you pronto.
Tesla BUMP! Good post.
bookmarked, Thank-you
Has anybody replicated Tesla’s free energy machines for practical use? The original patents have now expired and should be public domain.

From the article, “...the earth has a charge... of 4.5 megawatt hours...”
That’s enough to light ten thousand standard light bulbs for 4.5 hours, or about 0.005 to 0.01 times the output of an average coal, gas or nuclear fired power plant.
In Tesla’s time that probably seemed like a lot of power.
In addition to making one terrible business decision, Tesla lived about 25-50 years too early. Were he able to conduct his experiments, with the knowlege of Einstein, Bohr, Heisenburg and others in hand, the practical results would have been, in my opinion, orders of magnitide greater.
As it is, Tesla’s writings probably contain pointers to advanced phenomena, some of which might be exploitable for useful amounts of cheap energy, but finding and leveraging them is difficult because of Tesla’s pre-standard nomenclature, his secrecy, and his ability to rely on his memory, reducing the quantity of surviving notes.
Thanks for posting this. Tesla is one of the greatest “unappreciated” inventors ever, mainly because of Edison/ GE.
Childhood hero of mine.
BTTT
Tesla once lived in the city I reside in. It is my understanding that the house he lived in receives visits from people who want a bit of soil, a glimpse of the inside of the house, or to meditate on the lawn - anything to connect them to Tesla.
Very odd.
...
The man knew about the rise of Her Ankleship!
“tesla” is hungarian for “tin foil,” I think.
