Speaking at a news conference in Oklahoma, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee floated the idea that the reason the vast majority of America's conservative talk radio hosts aren't endorsing him or John McCain is because Mitt Romney's investment firm owns a significant share of Clear Channel Communications, the nation's largest radio syndication company.
"Some suggest that the fact that Bain Capital owns a major stake in Clear Channel is on Sean's network, maybe there's a correlation. I don't know."
The Sean he was referring to had to be none other than Sean Hannity, America's number-two talk radio host behind Rush Limbaugh.

Chucklebee owes all these folks an apology. I won’t hold my breath, though, because I want to be around to vote in my state caucus next week.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out why the majority of CONSERVATIVE hosts dislike them and why so many of us will not vote for them...even against Hillery or Obama!

Supporting the Constitution isn't being a "nut job," but being paranoid without getting the facts straight is. Huckabee's the real nut job.

very well stated thank you.... My frustration is really aimed at Sean and Rush I tried to get thru to them today.. and I’m not really enamored with McCain either but inevitably I think he will be the nominee and this tearing up the party over Pure Conservativism really got me up in arms...
Anyway if I would have talked to Sean I simply was going to remind him that McCain has been a Conservative for over 20 years in the Senate and he has fought for Conservative issues and then I was going to ask Sean to convince me to vote for Romney not by tearing down a war hero but by giving me direct examples of Romney’s Conservative laws, legislation, some example where he actually fought for Conservative values before he thought about running for POTUS....
Either way I will vote for the Republican nominee... but I think its disingenuous for Sean and Rush to portray McCain like this.
Hate to interrupt all the usual uninformed name-calling, but Huckabee’s right. I’ve worked in syndicated radio for 30 years, and since Bain bought out Clear Channel, even I’ve been careful about saying what I really think of Romney (not much). I only derive about 1/8th of my income from Clear Channel stations, but I don’t want to lose it, and I don’t want my clients at those stations to get grief from above. So of course, it has an effect on how radio hosts talk about candidates. As volatile as radio is today, with revenues shrinking, competition from satellite and Internet radio, and local shows being replaced all over with syndicated shows, do you seriously believe a host wouldn’t think twice about risking his cushy livelihood by slamming a guy who founded the company that owns his employer? (Yes, I know he doesn’t own it anymore, but that hardly means he has no influence there, and all that matters is that he be perceived to have influence). Wake up and smell the reality.
Believe me, I can totally understand your frustration with this entire election. What's worse is seeing all of us FReepers fighting each other and so many turning on each other over which candidate someone is going to vote for. I think the majority (I hope) here on FR really want what is best for this Country, and even though we may all have our priorities in a different order, the bottom line is we never really got a perfect candidate. That is my concern, how can anyone live up to all the expectations of the conservatives? I think the high standards are great, but it prevents many that would be good presidents from running, ie Newt Gingrich.
I have a few questions for you? You say you are upset with Hannity and Rush over attacking McCain. Did they actually attack him, or did they just report his record? There IS a big difference. I don't recall them attacking him personally. Yes, he is a war hero, but Kerry "claimed" he was too. That certainly isn't a reason to vote for him.
Did you watch the last Republican debate? McCain's behavior was embarrassing, and it gets old when he answers EVERY question with "I'm proud of my record" As for Romney, he was a Govonor in the most liberal state in this Country, you really think he was going to have a conservative record there? There are NO guarantees with Romney, I will grant you that. But at least he is running as a conservative, and we will hold him accountable. Most of McCain's support comes from independents and liberals...that is his base and that is how he votes. If nothing else, the fact that he has fallen for the global warming FRAUD that is being taught like it is gospel, should say something about what his beliefs are. Lastly, look at the endorsements. Now, I don't use endorsements to make my decision, but it's always interesting to look at the trends...the BIG picture.
Almost ALL of the LIBERAL members of the Republican Party have endorsed McCain. Almost all of the CONSERVATIVE talk show hosts, etc have endorsed Romney. To me, that IS very telling. Romney will not be well received in Washington because he isn't an insider...but that is exactly what we need.
Tom, this is a difficult election, and a difficult decision. All we can do is learn what we can and hope that what's best for this Country is what happens.
I respect your decision to vote for the nominee. I have decided differently. I will NOT vote for McCAin or Huckabee, I will look for a third party candidate.
McCain's adviser said that conservatives will come back to McCain to prevent the Democrats from winning. THAT is the problem. He is getting the liberals to vote for him, and then takes for GRANTED that the conservatives will hold their nose and vote for him. Isn't that what we have been criticizing the blacks for doing for years? They continue to vote Democrat even though Democrats do NOTHING for them! Well, that's what is happening with conservatives and McCain...something to think about.

About $19.5 billion, which is what Mitt Romney’s private equity firm, Bain Capital, and Thomas H. Lee Partners have agreed to pay in a leveraged buyout agreement with Clear Channel Communications, the largest radio station owner in the country. This is part of a negotiation that has been pending for over a year.
Clear Channel owns more than 1,100 full-power AM, FM, and shortwave radio stations, twelve radio channels on XM Satellite Radio, and more than 30 television stations in the United States. Premiere Radio Networks, which is the largest syndication company in the United States, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Clear Channel and is home to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and many others. Sean Hannity recently signed a large multi-market contract with Clear Channel, as well.

No one even considered Mitt Romney until about 1 month ago.He was tooo liberal back then.
Hugh Hewitt mentioned on air today that Dennis Prager (finally!) endorsed Romney.
