Election 2008: California Republican Presidential Primary
Rasmussen ^ | February 03, 2008

Posted on 02/03/2008 11:40:39 AM PST by chaos_5

In California, Republican Primary Voters are evenly divided between John McCain and Mitt Romney. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds McCain attracting 38% of the vote and Romney earning an identical 38%. Mike Huckabee is a distant third at 10%, Ron Paul picks up 6%, and 6% say they’ll vote for some other candidate.

Earlier in the week, McCain had a small advantage over Romney. Since then, Giuliani dropped out of the race and endorsed McCain. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also endorsed the GOP frontrunner. While those events may have helped McCain, a conservative backlash for anybody-but-McCain appears to have helped Romney.

Romney leads 42% to 37% among conservative voters while McCain leads by eleven points among political moderates. McCain has a slight lead among men while Romney leads among women.

Eight percent (8%) of Likely Voters say there’s a good chance they could change their mind before voting while another 20% say they might change their mind.

Thirty-two percent (32%) of Likely Republican Primary Voters name the economy as the top voting issue for Election 2008. In California, an identical percentage (32%) now say that immigration is the highest priority. McCain leads by sixteen points among those who see the economy as the top issue while Romney leads by twenty-five among voters focused on immigration.

Pawlenty is angling for VP.

But MN is a caucus state so endorsements don’t mean as much. McCain got everyone’s endorsement in Maine and it did him no good.

Yup, and illegals vote, right?

This is CA, yes far to many illegals and noncitizens vote. We have no ID requirements to vote. It's sad that even Mexico has more strict voting requirements than us.

The vote in Orange and San Diego counties could determine the election here. They are the two largest Republican leaning counties in the state, and both are overwhelmingly conservative. Mitt has to win big in both counties to have a chance to carry the state.

As long as the vote is relatively even, a few points either way aren't going to change more than a small number of delegates.

And McCain will win the vast majority of winner-take-all states Tuesday.

Schwarzenegger the RINO endorses McCain

Only stands to reason, Schwarzenegger is a kennedy lovin' Wilson rino, who was propped up by the liberal republican Wilson regime that stole the election from McClintock who actually was resposible for getting Davis impeached

Oh, they DON’T, don’t they? Well, originalbuckeye, I hate to break the news to ya, but McNasty is NOT a Republican by any stretch of the imagination! Illegals would vote for anyone who is FOR THEM, period.

A vote for McCain is a vote for the second coming of Lyndon Johnson (father of "The Great Society.") Wouldn't your rather have someone who at least might actually be a Republican to choose from next November?

The probability is that McCain will lose the general election. There are tens of millions of conservaties who will not vote for him. His nomination will probably destroy the Republican Party. And if he actually wins the general election, the destruction of the GOP will be a certainty, since the coalition will be irrevocably split asunder.

McConan the "Republican"? Just say NO!

He doesn't have to carry the state, just the most amount of territory. South, inland, and North CA are conservative, and Romney will do well. All the libs in the city can support McStain, and they can even be a majority, but Romney can still take more delegates.

Tell me how he can win a nomination (Florida, e.g., was a closed primary), and then not having republicans’ support.

Good point. I forgot it’s not winner take all out here in terms of delegates being rewarded.

The yaking heads on FoxNew led by Chris Wallace were just saying that it is too late for Romney...that here is a great guy, beautiful family and accomplishments....but the Radio Taking personalities waited too long for a REAGAN and now after all the $$$$$$$$ spent out of his own pocket, Romney is sure to lose.
I hope the remaining states on Tuesday prove these so called smarties WRONG!

What a depressing election it will be in Nov if the two junk yard dogs ( Hillary and McCain) are the two we have to chose between..My husband said if it is McCAin and not Romney he will hold his nose and pull the switch for McCain..I don’t know that I can do that...

Actually, it was pseudo-con Melanie Morgan of KSFO who is credited—even more than Rep. Issa—with the Recall that brought down Gov. Davis. However, Morgan and other Republicans made the mistake of thinking that Ahnold would do the conservatives well, and instead, except on dl’s for illegals, he shafted them time and time again. I boycotted that station as a result of Morgan’s push for the Recall. I couldn’t stand Davis, but instead, she MAY have unwittingly given us President McNasty (re: Ahnold’s endorsement)!!

My personal "man on the street" interview polling with mexicans, finds the mexicans split about 50/50.

50% Che commies ( criminals and idealist idiots )

and 50% conservative( non-union hard working man who doesnt buy the mexi-media spin)

Is that true? Isn’t it by population, not just by county? Man, I feel better about my state already!
