I don’t blame Sean or Rush. I blame “true” conservatives who didn’t see months and months ago that it would come down to a two person race and encouraged the fracturing of the conservative vote by peeing in everyone’s punch bowl.

That point has merit because Thompson should have pulled much more support then he got.... Bad promotion?

It's still a 4 person race ~ Super Tuesday hasn't happened yet and there you are believing in polls again.

Put not your faith in polls ~

Good points! I recall a time back in 1999--when Bush, Gary Bauer, Steve Forbes, Alan Keyes, Orrin Hatch and McCain-- were first gearing up for the run to the White House, and it was Bush drawing the ire of Free Republic (even from the owner of this site).

At that time there were all kinds of kooky charges being leveled at the future president (that he used cocaine, had impregnated a girlfriend and talked her into an abortion, etc.) just as there are now against John McCain. It infuriated a lot of us--some of us (me) who first choice wasn't Bush--because here and other places on the internet, there is no truth filter and persons can claim anything they want with impunity.

You see it in the previous postings against McCain.

I personally don't have anything against Mitt Romney except his politics, demonstrated by his apparent swaying from one side of the conservative coin to the other as governor of a far-left northeastern state and the fact that I believe McCain to be the stronger candidate. As far as his religion goes, I don't care if he worships the sun instead of the Son (though, IMO, Mormons do believe in a fairy tale as do many fundamentalists who take the Bible literally).

I do believe that he has resorted to some nasty attack ads (as evidenced by none of the major GOP candidates endorsing him after they've suspended their candidacies); but I WOULD certainly vote for him over either of the two Democratic candidates. The thought of Hillary in charge of my country sends cold chills down my back.

Put the blame where it belongs. True conservative leadership would never have served up such awful choices. I would hardly call those coming out of the woodwork to support the likes of McNut conservative.

To them the term conservative is just a rallying cry they use to garner votes. Note how conservatives are always told to suck it up and set principles aside to compromise. I'm done compromising.

In the true sense of the word George Bush is NO conservative. Ronald Reagan was the closest in my lifetime, but even he came short of a being true conservative. A true conservative is a strict Constitutionalist. Maybe someone could point out to me a current politician who is also a strict supporter of the Constitution?

Bingo! It was going to be Mitt Romney against the Establishment the whole time. It would have been helpful if everyone could have seen it sooner.
