Gov. Ryan of Illinois commuted 167 death sentences serving various sentences. They remained in jail. Four of the inmates on death row were pardoned and released for reasons other than the blanket commutation.

Ryan, a Republican, did not run for re-election, and is in the pokey himself now, the last I heard.

His gubernatorial successor, a liberal Democrat, is corrupt and should be in jail, also. But he'll probably be re-elected because Illinois is overwhelmingly blue now and a death wish rules supreme in the Land of Lincoln.

The unions, Chicago limousine liberals, Jesse Jackson's thugs and Mayor Daley's well-oiled machine run the state.

Of course, apres Ryan came le deluge......and the Illinois GOP party is presently weak and disorganized.

Unfortunately, the party's only potential savior, Republican Mike Ditka, doesn't want to run for any office despite the prodding of his still-loyal fans, LOL.
