He [Romney] now trails John McCain by more than 20 points in national polls.

That’ll probably be the last time he sets foot in Utah.

As someone has already pointed out, Reagan was 30 points behind Carter at this time in 1980.

BTW, Mitt is cleaning Mac’s clock tonight in Maine. 53 percent of the vote at last count to McCain’s 21 percent.

Go Mitt!

For the Mormon candidate, it was a diversion he could ill afford . . .

And yet he did it anyway. That shows class.

Attended the funeral of a 97 year old man. What a bad horrible man. What would Saint Huckabee do?

I wish I had a nickel for every time somebody wrote or uttered the word Mormon since last January.

All of the other candidates are crappy observers of their religion and john McCain is not even sure to which denomination he belongs.

And Mike Huckabee is the least Christian in his actions, words and demeanor on the trail.

But let's talk about the guy that has always lead his life on the straight and narrow because the religion of his fathers is different than the religion of our fathers.

I’m not a Romney supporter, but if this funeral was important to him, there is nothing wrong with his going. I wasn’t against Thompson seeing his sick mother, either.

Good for him. We all need to take time to mourn the loss of our friends and loved ones. I attended calling hours out of town for an old family friend myself today.

97 is a ripe old age. May he RIP.

This is evil and cruel and wrong. Most decent (I said “decent”) people are reverent and polite when someone dies. This thread was started obviously to try and hurt Romney at a time when LDS folks are mourning the death of our leader.

I am proud of Romney for taking time off from campaigning to attend the funeral of a great religious leader who served the Lord practically his whole life. Romney wanted to pay his respects.

I think it’s a good thing that people will be reminded that Romney is a respectful member of a church whose name bears the name of the Savior of the world.

Let’s see...What would they have said about Romney if he had decided to ditch the funeral of the current president of his Church and just keep hucking for votes??? He’d be a flip-flopper on Mormonism? He’d be a phony Mormon? He’d be a hypocrite?

If I’m Romney, I’d rather maintain my dignity and go to the funeral in the middle of the campaign than make this an ACTUAL issue by willfully avoiding it for fear that it would remind people that I was a Mormon.

McCains poll numbers are a factor of the bandwagon effect. The lemmings wait until there is a inevitable candidate and then announce their support. Kinda like those ‘moderates’ who jump over the fence as soon as they see who is gonna prevail on any issue.

What a F’d up headline! “Mormon” funeral? When you go to a funeral, do you say “Oh, I went to a Catholic funeral today”?

What crap!

Oh well - here comes’s FR’s bigot brigade...

I can stand Romney’s personality; but McCain is possesed like a gargoyle.

He looks like he has a rock in his shoe all the time.

Than why are you being rude on a thread about a Funeral wow You surely are inconsiderate not only to Romney but all those who are mourning to day...

You seem to care only about yourself!

For the Mormon candidate, it was a diversion he could ill afford...

I don't see how he could be faulted for this.

In terms of faith and simple dignity, and out of respect for a religious leader he obviously admires, it is inevitable that he attend the funeral.

More cynically, he would be beaten about the head and shoulders by every liberal cynic in the nation if he were to take a pass on it.
