Flawed Cindy McCain has a grudge list

Flawed Cindy McCain has a grudge list Tony Allen-Mills

ON almost every step of his march towards the Republican nomination, John McCain has relied on the support of his glamorous second wife Cindy. Yet she has not always been a political asset. A Republican victory in November would bring to the White House a formidable but flawed first lady.

McCain’s marriage has long attracted attention both for the 18-year age gap between husband and wife and for their adopted Asian daughter, who became the focus of one of the most vicious dirty tricks of the 2000 presidential campaign.

The couple have also overcome daunting health problems that included McCain’s bouts with skin cancer, a stroke suffered by Cindy in 2004, and her admission a decade earlier that she had become so addicted to painkillers that she was stealing them from a medical charity she ran.

Yet somehow the McCains have emerged as a potent and durable political partnership. Cindy McCain was at her husband’s side last week as he celebrated the Florida primary victory that has put him at the front of the Republican field.

A former Arizona rodeo beauty queen and daughter of a millionaire Phoenix businessman, Cindy McCain was 25 when she met her future husband at a cocktail party in Hawaii. John McCain was a 43-year-old naval liaison officer travelling with a congressional delegation, his sights already set on a political career.

He was also still married to his first wife Carol, although the couple had recently separated. Carol later attributed the breakdown of the marriage to “John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 again”. McCain fell like a brick for Cindy, who was the heir to a brewery distribution business worth millions.

Maybe the Cow shouldn’t have been hosing him while he was married to the Woman who stood by while he was a POW.

I believe I heard on Fox one time that this is from injuries he suffered when being held as a POW in Viet Nam. He cannot raise his arms over his head anymore.

I don’t want McCain to be nominated, but this piece was just garbage. Cindy McCain is a sinner too?! Sheesh - pass the salt and condemn me as well.

The only thing surprising about this article is that anyone is doing it before the nomination.

The media has been salivating so much with the potential that he may be the nominee they probably can't wait a few more days to begin their attacks, although it will very limited until then. That's why they are beginning with the family.

Cindy is 18 years younger than John:

so that makes her what? 75 or so?

her admission a decade earlier that she had become so addicted to painkillers that she was stealing them from a medical charity she ran.

Is that a polite way of saying she was a spaced out druggie. :^)

Cindy McCain wasn’t stealing the drugs, she was stealing the scripts, and forging the presciptions, signing the names of the doctors who worked for the charity that she worked for.

And then John McCain attacked THEM when he was told what she was doing...going so far as to hire a PR firm to slander them after booting them from their jobs.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was due to his torture at the "Hanoi Hilton." IIRC, both of his arms were broken, and they used that as part of the torture.

As I recall they didn't directly torture him - more a case of serious neglect early on. He was injured from the plane crash, and beaten by villagers. After he was taken captive, his injuries were left to heal without treatment until the North Vietnamese figures out who he was...at which point they treated his injuries and fed him well enough for him to gain weight, hoping to use him as a bargaining chip. It was a big deal for them, and they even built a propaganda monument to those who captured him.
