A panel discussion on global climate change Tuesday found Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) staff agreeing with representatives for the leading Democratic presidential contenders. A cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions, they agreed, is the most promising solution to "global warming."
A cap and trade system would involve limits or caps (lower than current levels) on the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced by polluters like power plants. But companies able to cut their CO2 output at a low cost would be able to sell their left-over pollution permits to companies facing higher costs.
John Raidt, a policy advisor to McCain, said during a discussion at the left-leaning Brookings Institution that the Arizona Republican is a "foremost proponent of carbon cap-and-trade."
Raidt said McCain supports a cap-and-trade system above taxes on carbon emissions because "cap-and-trade is a market-driven, proven way."
The position put McCain in league with leading Democratic contenders - Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina - whose policy advisors also participated in the discussion.

All you FReepers who support McCain, you're on your own. I just won't do it. Hasta la vista (that means "See y'all later" in Spanish, get used to it if McAmnesty is the nominee, esé.)
Id rather be waterboarded seven days a week than vote for McCain.
It’s finally gonna happen...the GOP is gonna nominate a Democrat.
I will vote third party.
McCain has never been in the private sector has he????
McCain has been always paid by the Federal government for the work he does whether he was in the military or in Congress
McCain’s take on the economy is as out of whack as any Democrat socialist like Hillary or Obama who also have zero private sector experience and none in business
Business for all these idiots is the business of Gubbermint and what Gubbermint does with your tax dollars
I'm shocked.
Juan is STILL calling himself a "republican."
One more reason we MUST NOT ALLOW this turkey to prevail.
This is going to be a huge disaster for the Republican party...it means conservatives are being read out of the party...fine, I will leave and work within a third party movement...don’t know which one yet...but I AM OUTTA HERE.
It’s beginning to look as though the electorate is so brainwashed by the media that we can’t have either an intelligent debate or a real-choice-election.
Juan McCain’s worked in the business sector for two years or less. For his new father in law’s beer distributorship. He then ran for Congress and has been plaguing us ever since. I would say McCain’s main business experience is talking to agri-business lobbyists and pledging to support illegal alien amnesties.
McCain has nearly always been in the employ of the Federal Gubbermint. Bound to give one a lopsided view how America works. The America they tax and then do stupid crap with these extorted funds.

U.S. Congressman and more children
Living in Phoenix, McCain went to work for his new father-in-law Jim Hensley’s large Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship as Vice President of Public Relations,[54] where he gained political support among the local business community,[55] meeting powerful figures such as banker Charles Keating, Jr., real estate developer Fife Symington III,[54] and newspaper publisher Darrow “Duke” Tully,[55] all the while looking for an electoral opportunity.[54] When John Jacob Rhodes, Jr., the longtime Republican congressman from Arizona’s 1st congressional district, announced his retirement, McCain ran for the seat as a Republican in 1982.[57] McCain faced two experienced state legislators in the Republican nomination process, and as a newcomer to the state was hit with repeated charges of being a carpetbagger.[54]
In 2009 my car will have a bumper sticker reading —
“Don’t blame me I didn’t vote for McCain”
But, But...He’s a real conservative. Mike Medved said so last night!
Unbelievable! There is absolutely no mechanism by which CO2 can cause any change to climate as claimed. There is also no way I will vote for McCain and the Democrats know this. Time to rally behind Mitt.
Most Freepers did NOT support McCain before Thompson left the race and I think it is still safe to say that MOST Freepers do not want him now.
But that does not alter the fact that he will probably win the nomination. Staying home and “not voting” just because we hate him will not stop him from winning. Only Obama can stop him, but Obama will be worse than McCain as Obama will withdraw all of our troops from Iraq before we should and then global warming will end:
1. We remove our troops from Iraq.
2. Chaos grows in Iraq and spreads in the Middle East.
3. With WWIII starting in the Middle East, the flow of oil will stop.
4. The global price of oil will increase dramatically, with the global economy likewise going into CHAOS.
5. Global economic depression will result in a reduction in “greenhouse gases”.
6. But wait.. this won’t stop climate change, because it isn’t caused by man.. but the SUN!
7. As global temperatures continue to rise, we will suffer from more droughts and mass starvation, with our economies too poor to be able to fight back.
A rather extreme scenario.. but not impossible.
McCain=Hillary=Obama=DOOM!
I think the ONLY possible hope is that McCain picks Fred as a running mate, then Johnny only serves one term, or better yet has to leave office for... a.. health reasons.
“One more reason we MUST NOT ALLOW this turkey to prevail.”
bttt
We have three days to stop him if you want to help us.
The calls you make that connect you to voters could put Mitt over the top, they could mean the difference in determining our next president. Please join us during all or some of the following times by emailing I want to win to CallatHome@MittRomney.com.
Pass this info on to as many people as possible. I signed up yesterday along with a bunch of other people I know.
McCain clearly would have signed onto Kyoto and crippled the US ecconomy. he would then have tried to tax and fix.
Tobacco use and Y2K did us in, remember. Idiots!
TO: mcinsaniacs
NEVER... NEVER... NEVER! will I vote mcinsane... NEVER!

The Mainstream Media is counting on the fact that most Conservatives will not vote for John McCain.
The Republican Party has fallen for it. The RINOs are in charge. I will not assist them.
Hillary may be bad for the country for a while, but a McCain presidency could damage the country forever. Conservatives and the conservative ideology would be relegated to fringe status and no longer have any impact on national politics.
The Media, Democrats and RINO Repubicans appear to have won this battle. I will not help them win the war.
This clown will screw up the country as badly as did Bill Clinton.
No, no, NO - I will NOT vote for John McCain under ANY circumstance.
