STUDY RANKS MISSISSIPPI AS ‘FATTEST’ STATE IN U.S.

JACKSON, Miss. — Experts say Mississippians need to skip the gravy, say no to the fried pickles and start taking brisk walks to fight an epidemic of obesity.

According to a new study, this Deep South state is the fattest in the nation. The Trust for America’s Health, a research group that focuses on disease prevention, says Mississippi is the first state where more than 30 percent of adults are considered obese.

Aside from making Mississippi the butt of late-night talk show jokes, the obesity epidemic has serious implications for public policy.

You would do well to actually read the information at the link Leisler has with the article rather than criticizing right out of the box. Looks real to me.

While we’re at it, should we also stop serving food to people of a certain skin color?

Even if it gets passed, Gov. Barbour would never sign it. Right?

Oh geeze not this again. This bill will NOT pass, and the sponsors know it. Mississippi has some of the most lenient smoking, gun, insurance, helmet, etc laws in the nation.

Relax, it’s just another bill intended to give people from Alabama something to laugh at.

Too many people in this country have not been educated in the most basic ideas about liberty and the proper role of government.

So they see a law like this and say, “Hey, well maybe it’s a good idea. Too many people are overweight eating all that stuff. And it will lower my taxes and insurance premiums to not have to help pay for their health problems. It’s for their own good anyway.”

The principles of liberty need to be taught in grade school and high school and college, and not as one opinion among others.

Excellent idea. Let us hope it passes. I’ve just returned from a grocery store where a family of five successfully blocked every isle it visited, and it visited every isle. Prohibit them from shopping at supermarkets, while we’re at it! Enough fat is enough!

My husband wants to know if this is a joke. Huckabee signed a law making it illegal to smoke in your own car, but this is even worse.

thats unconstitutional, it shoul apply to all food estblishments.

As soon as some enterprising lawyer were to figure out that more women were affected than men, the discrimination lawsuits would start to fly and the legislature would have to repeal this thing. Assuming it became law, which it wont.
