I think Sadr realized that he would be signing a death warrant if he didn’t ‘extend’ the cease fire. Plusses on two fronts - 1. He knows he doesn’t have the forces to stand against the meat grinder that would hit them and 2. No longer has the political backing or an unstable gov’t that he can use his milita to leverage against.
“I think Sadr realized that he would be signing a death warrant if he didnt extend the cease fire.”
OPINION:
I agree.
Cause of explosion still unknown
Right now, Im trying to exhaust every possible means before I render my opinion, Deputy Fire Marshal Ron Jarocha said.
Don't know how I missed that, but thanks JellyJam and Oorang! Just the typical exacto-knife plane boarding we've come to expect of the Lutherans (eyes rolling).

Fire inspectors started sifting through the rubble Saturday of the site where three buildings were destroyed by a fire and explosion Friday.
A fire started around 1:40 p.m. at Seasons Restaurant, located at 764 Main Ave. in downtown Durango. The fire apparently started in the kitchen. Officials investigating cause of Altoona explosion
Police are trying to determine what caused an explosion at an Altoona trucking company this afternoon. Employees at Peterbilt, say the blast happened in the wash bay seconds after they pushed a button to open an automatic garage door.
Thank you Mama Dearest.
“...pushed a button to open an automatic garage door.”
Duly noted.
Really? That's just crazy. Perhaps all the people that want their cities to be sanctuaries for illegals should just move south of the border. Sheesh.
The radical Sunni Islamist, para-military terrorist group is composed of Iraqi Kurds, Arabs and others. The group surfaced just before September 2001 as a result of a merger of several Kurdish Sunni groups, and follows the same extremist interpretation of Islam as does al-Qaeda, to which it is closely affiliated.
Its leader, Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad, better known as Mullah Krekar, once proclaimed to a Kurdish newspaper that "as far as Islam is concerned, democracy from beginning to end is heresy." Ansar is blamed for three attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and has had at least three Canadian members, all from the Toronto area.
In a 2005 briefing to a Senate committee on terrorism, CSIS director Jim Judd noted former Scarborough resident Hassan Farhat and Canadian Saeed Rasoul Sobrhatollah Muhammad, then a 31-year-old Seneca College graduate, were linked to the group. Another brother, Canadian Masoud Rasoul, believed then to be in northern Iraq, also was alleged to be involved with the group, according to the Toronto Star. The whereabouts of the three men is not known. The men met at at Scarborough's Salaheddin mosque, a relative told the Star.

Secret files against terror suspects revealed
February 23, 2008
The case against a group of Canadians sometimes referred to as "the Secret Trial Five" isn't as secret as it used to be.
Ottawa unveiled more specific allegations against the five terrorism suspects yesterday: for example, that one suspect called the satellite phone of al-Qaeda's second-in-command, and that another was in charge of a group of training camp recruits in Afghanistan.
In hundreds of pages of court documents yesterday, Canadian ministers signed new security certificates against alleged members of the al-Qaeda network. In doing so, the government narrowly beat a date imposed by the Supreme Court for the previous certificates to expire.

Flights to Israel buckle up amid Hezbollah threats
ERUSALEM, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Israel is requiring that passengers on all incoming flights be confined to their seats in the half-hour before landing as part of heightened precautions against hijacking, aviation security sources said on Friday.
They said the Transport Ministry order, issued to local and foreign airlines on Wednesday, cited threats by Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas to avenge the Feb. 12 assassination of their operations chief by waging "open war" against the Jewish state.
the Jewish state. "Our new policy is that planes lock their flight-deck doors and activate the 'please fasten seat belts' signs when 180 miles (290 km) away from Israel," one Israeli security source said.
Israel issues hijack alert to all incoming airlines
The transportation ministry officials explained that the new decree has been issued in light of fears that terrorists might succeed in infiltrating a plane, and attempt to take control over the aircraft only in the final stage of the flight, after it has reached Israeli airspace.
A hijacking at this stage would make it difficult for security forces to respond in time to curb the attack, the report said.
"It takes several minutes to deploy fighter jets towards a hijacked plane. Therefore, the final stage of the flight is extremely crucial," an aviation security expert said.

Portside on terror alert (Australia)
February 24, 2008
AUSTRALIAN Federal Police are investigating an Indian man who arrived in Brisbane two days ago with alleged terrorist links. The man arrived on a ship at the Port of Brisbane early Friday. Sources told The Sunday Mail that Customs officers alerted the AFP after speaking to crew members of the ship.
"The word terrorist or terrorism was used," an informant said yesterday. A federal police spokeswoman confirmed the investigation. "We are currently undertaking preliminary inquiries at the Port of Brisbane in response to allegations that have been raised with the AFP," she said. The spokeswoman refused to elaborate, saying it was an "operational matter". Customs confirmed a matter was passed on to federal police for investigation, but also refused to comment further.
A spokesman declined to identify the ship. The informant said a crew member had made "serious" allegations against a colleague and because of the nature of those claims, police were called. The Indian man was taken away by AFP officers for questioning around sunrise on Friday.

A TALIBAN warlord behind suicide attacks on British troops has been killed during a daring operation in Afghanistan, it was reported today.
The Special Boat Service ambushed Mullah Abdul Matin as he crossed a desert on a motorbike. He was shot dead by troops from the elite division of the Royal Navy after they were dropped into his path by helicopter. Reports said Matin opened fire with an AK47 rifle, but was shot dead along with two guards including key Taliban lieutenant Mullah Karim Agha.
Matin, who was in his 40s, was killed on Monday near Gereshk in Helmand Province. Matin had been one of the Coalition's top targets in recent months. He and his followers are believed to be responsible for several suicide bomb attacks on British convoys. His men are thought to have been behind the deaths of Royal Marine Gary Wright, 22, in October 2006, and Sgt Dave Wilkinson, 33, last July, as well as the murders of dozens of Afghan civilians.

Bangalore engineer with terror designs held
23 Feb 2008
BANGALORE: An electrical engineer who was once employed with a leading US multinational and is an active member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) has been arrested from Bangalore by police who claim the 32-year-old could hold the key to cracking a dangerous terror web that spanned swathes of India, from UP to Kerala.
A native of a village near Kozhikode, Kerala, Yahya Iyash Kamkutty came to Bangalore eight years ago after completing a bachelor's degree in engineering from one of Kerala's best institutes. While working with GE, he kept in touch with terror suspects Mohammed Asif, Asadullah Abubaker and their associates. The gang held several meetings in north Karnataka and were preparing to strike at key installations in the state, police said.
Yahya's arrest late on Thursday once again points to the increasing use of highly-trained professionals being lured into terror groups which have used sophisticated methods and planning in their attacks. It was from Bangalore that Glasgow bomber Kafeel Ahmed, a PhD scholar in aeronautical engineering and his brother, Sabeel Ahmed, went to UK.
Police said Yahya became more active in SIMI after he lost his job at GE while trying to steal data to set up his own firm. It was another arrested terror suspect, Mohammed Asif, who revealed the name of Yahya and his association with SIMI. Thereafter, the cops, who were investigating recent terror cases in north Karnataka, started questioning Yahya. Finally, on Thursday night, he was arrested.
Police have seized a laptop, hard disc, jihadi material and hundreds of books from Yahya's house. They would be sending the hard disc for decoding information. They are hoping to get his contacts, communication and plans from the email communication. Karnataka sleuths took Yahya to Hubli to produce him before a magistrate because the case is registered there. They plan to take him in their custody and put him through polygraph tests, brain mapping and narcoanalysis.
