Buried WMD Scoop
The Wall Street Journal ^ | February 1, 2008 | Editorial Staff

Journalists are taught never to "bury the lead." Yet it looks as if that's precisely what CBS's "60 Minutes" did in reporter Scott Pelley's fascinating interview Sunday with George Piro, the FBI agent who debriefed Saddam Hussein following his capture in December 2003.

The Lebanese-born Mr. Piro, one of only a handful of agents at the bureau who speaks Arabic, was able to wheedle information from Saddam over a matter of months through a combination of flattery and ego-deflation that worked wonders with the former despot. But as Bruce Chapman of the Discovery Institute first noticed, the most important news in the segment comes when Mr. Piro describes his conversations with Saddam about weapons of mass destruction. The FBI interrogator says that, while Saddam said he no longer had active WMD programs in 2003, the dictator admitted that he intended to resume those programs as soon as he possibly could.

“...The key point is Saddam’s admission that an Iraqi WMD program remained a threat so long as Saddam remained in power....”

Clear as can be that Saddam intended to resume WMD production at the earliest possible date, which meant he was always only 6 months away from having substantial bio and chem mass terror capabilities, and always only 1 or 2 or 3 years from possibly having nukes (given the ramp-up capabilities he had retained). The war was 100% justified on other grounds but it was also 100% justified to get rid of Saddam. Of course, if the Euro-socialists + China and Russia were not such perfidious weasels then it might have been possible to keep a solid sanctions regime longer, but the commies and socialists were determined to undermine and end any effectiveness of sanctions. THEY are to blame for the necessity of a war to remove Saddam’s regime.

CBS is not about to discredit its party’s successful WMD soundbite agenda. CBS and the Democrats have worked far too long and hard to promote the “Bush lied, people died” mantra to go exposing any truth about Iraq and WMD at this late date. It’s too close to the next election.

However, Hillary may make use of this info, now that Barack and Swimmer Ted are putting her on the hotseat for voting to authorize a senseless war.

Hillary has been trying to make the point that the info she had said Saddam was a WMD threat. The peaceniks have been tearing her up. So NOW...

Based on captured Iraqi documents that I have read, I strongly believe that Saddam regime opted to produce all the Precursors (or base Materials) required to build Chemical Weapons rather than building the final chemical weapon products. Once the Precursors are available it would be very easy and quick to build the final chemical weapons, in most cases it only take weeks if not days to build it.

There are two main reasons why Saddam regime chose to build the Precursors for the chemical weapons rather than the final product. The first one is that those Precursors are classified under what is called “dual use materials” where it can be used both in civilian and WMD industries, and Saddam regime can always claim that these precursors were produced for civilian industry. The second reason is that the Precursors have longer shelf life than the final chemical weapons program which means it can be stored for a much longer of time and assembled.

Oh and poor old Hillary said last night that if only she had known, blah blah blah... Interesting lapse given she was copresident for 8 years and has 35 years of experience yet she hides her paperwork kinda like Saddam hid his.

She was so she claimed, allll for inspections and inspectors; well I wonder how many inspection passes she will pass out so the American people can inspect her secret walled off papers????

Bottom line: a very bad man with bad intentions isn't around anymore due to President Bush and our military.

God bless our troops!

INteresting series of 3 days of interviews here by David Cerullo with Former Iraqi General George Sada, who is a Christian....the only Christian who was on Sadddam’s war board and who was an advisor to Saddam who survived....and who has written a book about Saddam’s reign.

He calls what American has done as “liberation” of Iraq~!

http://inspirationtoday.com/insptoday/videoarchive.aspx

He declares of course there were WMD’s under Saddam and explains how Saddam had their two passenger jets transformed into cargo carriers and flew out his WMD’s over to Syria in the guise of taking humanitarian aid to Syria when its large dam collapsed (with help) and flooded Syria’s province around that dam. Saddam also sent convoys of 16 wheelers to Syria during that time with same.

Just listen - very interesting.

Here's an item from yesterday's The Modesto Bee about a local policeman who later joined the FBI and worked with Piro.

When George Piro asked fellow FBI agent Todd Irinaga to join him for a special mission in the spring of 2004, Irinaga thought his longtime friend was just kidding.
