San Diego, CA --
Mitt Romney gave 18 million dollars of his own money to his campaign in the last three months of 2007. In total, he has poured 35 million dollars of his personal fortune into his campaign.
The Romney camp also reported raising 9 million dollars in donations in the fourth quarter equaling 53.5 million dollars for the entire year. The campaign spent 33.8 million during the last 3 months of the year equaling 87.6 million dollars spent in 2007. The camp reports having 2.4 million dollars cash on hand at the end of the year. The campaign did not release any numbers for January meaning that Romney may have donated even more than 35 million dollars to his campaign.
The camp launched an aggressive ad blitz today signaling that former Massachusetts governor may have used more of his vast wealth, which is estimated at upwards of 250 million dollars.
Campaigns were required to file their end of the year finance reports today with the Federal Election Commission.

Romney knows that despite all the moderate endorsement, the conservative base of the GOP is deeply unhappy with McCain. It’s turning to Romney, slowly, unassuredly perhaps, but it’s turning.
Which conservative base, specifically?
Chuck Norris was whining on Hannity & Colmes the other night that Romney is “buying the presidency.”
No, I think he us in it for the best reasons. And I personally am so glad he has the money since I can only help so much. (He won’t rent the Lincoln bedroom either.
Thankfully.
Yep.
I don’t know how you figure that, with McCain since Florida now polling ahead in solidly red states like Georgia and Alabama (with Huckabee in 2nd, and Romney a distant 3rd).
He should stick to hawking stupid exercise equipment people buy but never use.
I guess $87-million does not go as far as it used to. All that money spent and he cannot win a contested primary (unless he is running as a favorite son).
The Clintons are closing in on a $100 million post-presidency profit. He’ll get all the money back and then some if he wins.
In the days of old, Norris would just use a roundhouse kick.
Oh cheez, they all “buy” it. He’s just willing to use his own money, IOW, put it where his mouth is.
That large body that exists somewhere between the moderates and the FReepers. There are some who will never vote for Romney, that’s fine, but many, many other conservatives figure they will cast their lot with Romney rather than simply hand the nomination over to McCain.
Clintons would sell their mother to the highest bidder, if she was still around to sell.
What's the interest rate? If he just donted the money to his campaign, he couldn't later get reimbursed by donors. By loaning money to his campaign, he can get use political donations to repay the loans. The higher the interst rate he charges, the more he can get back as interest.
Hey, a few million here, a few million there. Soon we’ll be talking about real money!
Things are about to change.
