A brokered convention would be decided by the delegates pledged to the candidates who won them.
It's extremely unlikely that a majority would turn to a candidate who was eliminated early.
Far more likely is a deal to be made from the leading candidate and another with enough votes to put him over the top.
I have a very tough time imagining where the delegates select a Fred Thompson, for example.
