My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.
Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!
And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?
McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!
Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.
Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!
And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!
My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).
Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.
Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!
Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!
Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.
Woo hoo!!
Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!
Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.
Long live the Reagan Revolution!
"Never give up, never surrender!"
Duncan Hunter: His [Mitt Romney] company Bain Capital, is partnering with a Chinese company, a Chinese defense contractor, called the Wah-Way corporation, which helped Saddam Hussein set up his air defenses against American pilots, and Bane Capital is partnering with that outlawed Chinese defense contractor to buy an American defense contractor. You may know about that proposed deal, it’s right now before the commitee on foreign investment... Duncan Hunter: I think its a security problem, and I think it is a real disservice to... Americans. I think Mitt Romney is a NO GO for that reason alone.....I like Mike Huckabee’s integrity, I stood next to him in a lot of debates...

! Romney is a no go. The pretense that he is anything but a poll watching Rockefeller rich guys Republican is desperation by conservatives that want to see something in him that doesn’t exist. It’s basically saying “We will believe that when Romney panders, he means it, and will stick with it.” Why on earth would we believe that when he has switched positions for convenience at every opportunity and always looks to have it both ways on tough issues?
Number eight, possibility of Duncan Hunter VP or Sec of Defense. Duncan Hunter’s endorsement of Huckabee is significant given that Hunter saw Mike up close on the campaign trail.
Number nine, Huckabee excels in debates. Conservatives as a whole have a terrific sense of humor [FreeRepublic is a great example] and are articulate and inspiring on issues—Huckabee reflects that.
I'm not sure that would be much of a victory when the result is a nominee who no conservative would have found at all acceptable before the process began and only become marginally acceptable by default.
If Romney gets the nomination and is creamed in the general election (which is very possible), the pundits are going to say, "see, a conservative can't win" despite the fact that Romney is no conservative. If Romney does get elected, we get stuck with the most liberal Republican our party has ever nominated. By accepting Romney as a conservative, we are allowing the Rockefeller Wing of the Republican Party to infiltrate the conservative movement.
Well, not only that, but he’d be pasted in the general...
Interesting. You’re awfully appealing even when you’re out of your mind. (!) Well, it shows we’re all a bit fey at this point. I’ll forward to my dear husband Don-o, and we’ll debate it over the kitchen table.
That would definitely scare evangelicals.
That is a fundamental misunderstanding of the process. That's taking the victim mentality that somehow the "elite" are forcing a nominee on us.
It's simply not true.
Anyone can file to run for the office. Some really despicable people did. None of them were appointed by the "elite."
The "elite" do not comprise the majority of primary voters, and unless you think the vote tallies are all fraudulent, it's the grassroots who select our nominee from all those who voluntarily chose to run for the office.
Nobody but citizens like you and me kicked Thompson or Hunter to the curb. They're the same ones who kicked Giuliani to the curb.
I know you deemed Rudy as the candidate selected by the "elite" last summer. Didn't work out, if that's the case.
We, the voters, select our candidate and I utterly reject the notion that someone is being appointed by some sinister Republican cabal.
The voters make the decision and they're perfectly capable of making a bad one. Quit blaming it on some conspiracy theory.
No can do.

You may be mistaking me for Jim Robinson? I am not him :)
I think we need to hear from Fred before employing that strategy for reason #7. It’s very risky.
We are the church of Laodicea. I fear for this country if God gives us the leadership we deserve.
You also are of the opinion that our candidates are selected for us, and we the voters have no say in the matter. I don't know how you can explain how McCain, Romney, and Huckabee have all won various state contests if that's the case. Did you know that the RNC contributes nothing to any candidate until he is the nominee?
You may not like your choices of candidates, but they're not selected for you, and the GOP is certainly not shoving them down your throat.
Pull my other leg. The one with bells on it...
I heartily disagree. It is Huckabee who is splitting the conservatives and giving McCain the nomination. Huckabee doesn’t have a snowball’s chance of winning anything except the VP slot with McCain...and that is what he is after.
What a pathetic liberal RINO jerk moron is Jim Robinson.
