Shame on you Eagles fans!

How miserable is Philly? The residents of the City of Brotherly Love once booed Santa Claus and pelted him with snowballs at an Eagles game. Maybe it's the long commutes, violent crime and plethora of toxic waste sites that has people grumpy.

It is my understanding the Philadelphia Santa booing episode is a bit of a myth, in that Santa appeared at halftime and his sleigh had an ad on it. The crowd was booing placing a commercial on Santa. At least that’s how I hear it. This also happened a long time ago.

Charlotte could have moved up several notches if they rated the public schools.

>>Only New York City fares worst than Providence when it comes to income tax rates. The top rate for all of Rhode Island is 9.9%. Residents are fleeing the area, with a net migration of 20,000 out of the area over the past four years.<<

It’s not just Providence, the entire state of Rhode Island is in misery. Since it’s so small, it is easily overlooked but it’s just about to topple of the tracks entirely. People talk about Michigan. Rhode Island is so bankrupt and corrupt that it is unsolvable.

I was just glad that for once the rust belt wasn’t picked on. Pittsburgh (and Cleveland) flew under the radar...or maybe we have lost so much of our populations that we are not in the top 150 :( PaMom

Interesting list. But how does New York get a rating of 86 for weather and Philadelphia get a rating of 64 when they’re only about 90 miles apart and have almost identical climates?

After the 1968 race riots, cities across America went to hell in a hand basket. “White flight” that cities have yet and may never economically recover from.

If you’re gonna live in Southern Cali;
beat the commute and save on gas by working out of your house as I have done since 1979.

Philly native and current resident here. It’s not that bad here. Really. Stay away from the bad neighborhoods and you are fine. Enjoy the hoagies. Lots of transplanted NYers are.

I was much more miserable in the few years I spent in Jersey. I avoid going there if at all possible.

You have to give Detroit an A for consistency. It was a stinking, crime-infested, druggie, rape and armed robbery hell-hole at least since my last visit in 1979.

I have family that live in Arlington Heights and Lincolnshire Illinois and they love going into Chicago. I am surprised that it made the miserable list.

Not to stick up for Philly, but we threw snowballs at Santa about 40 years ago! There were still Datsun's on the road at that time.

This is fascinating. Detroit is #1 because the auto business is going soft. #2 is Stockton, caused by all the folks moving OUT of the bay area. If Detroit had caused the kind of population migration shift that the SF Bay Area had done in the last few years, Detroit would be off the list and wherever those people moved to would be on the list.

This is proof that the Bay Area is the center of outsourcing in the world. It even outsources its misery.

I immediately thought “Detroit” before opening.

Sad when moronic voters keep voting for the Demorat crooks that are in the pocket of the selfish UAW.

Maybe someday Detroit will elect a mayor who isn’t a criminal gang-banger, and things will start to shape up a little.
